It's not watercooled anymore, the damn processor mount leaked on my V-card, fucked that & the mobo up, v-card was warranty'd but mobo wasn't, changed it.  I dont have as many cables anymore either now that the water systems out.

I used to be into gaming but not as much anymore

I prolly paid a little more then 3 gran, I dont remember the benchmark tests for half-life 2, its been a long time.
Ok - what is a framerate? and how do you figure out how many you get? My husband plays half life 2 and games like that. He'd understand all this computer talk. LOL

also, your rear panel is not properly mated up with the motherboards rear ports.
just wiggle it a bit, it'll clip in.

out of interest, how much did that set up actually cost you, and what kind of framerates do you get out of it? (using things like Half Life 2, Total War, and such as benchmarks).

I get 210 frames in EVE Online on full everything (1680*1050), and no slowdown (noticable) in Supreme Commander on full everything, one monitor, 5* AIx Rush, unit cap; 1000, with all 6000 units in play.

tis nice.

simple terms?
the Framerate is how fast the computer can "draw" on the screen.
anything above 30 frames a second is considered fine
anything above 60 is no longer noticeable, and is perfectly smooth.

in Source, there are benchmarks built into Counterstrike:Source and Half Life 2: Lost Coast. difference being, Lost Coast is free Wink
there also other benchmarks in Source , but I dont think those are publicly available.

Thanks Smile So it must have to do with the video card ? My husband changes the whole computer when he gets  a game and its choppy Wink He just built us a new computer and was in awe at how smooth his game was playing . I take it his framerrate is good then Big Grin
Counterstrike rings a bell. He plays Command and Conquer Red alert. Tiberiun sun. He played Quake and stuff - I havnt seen that one in awhile. He must be into the same stuff as you. His new thing is he wants to play World of Warcraft (WOW).

yeah, its usually easiest to upgrade the GPU (graphics Processing Unit- the Video Card) when it gets choppy.
alas, there comes a time when the CPU requires upgrading, which is something I hate doing.
you gotta polish the heatsink...put just the right amount of thermal paste...its annoying.

Red Alert...whoa. Classic game.Tiberian Sun, not so much...Quakes ancient, but good.
World of Warcraft...uh oh. you might wanna keep an eye on that...
google it if you want to know more. suffice to say, its addictive, and leads to many an all nighter.

Yeah and it seems when you change the CPU you need a new motherboard/ram unless my husband just tell me that Wink grrr. LOL

Yeah, I figured World of Warcraft would be a prob hence probably why he is trying to convince me to play too. We only have 4 computers and a laptop in the house Wink

My husband use to have LAN parties that started one day and ended the next Wink he has no probs staying up all night playing games. I remember he thought it was hilarious that our neighbor was out at 6am getting the morning paper and 17 people were leaving our house with their computers. LOL . I think they were playing Half Life. It was a few years ago. He keeps trying to organize another one.

No, he is correct, you usually have to get a new motherboard and sometimes RAM, depending on the age of the machine.
its the socket, you see.
my old PC had an AMD processor, and was on socket 939 (i...think...)
my new one is LGA775. wont fit , you see.

I would recommend you start playing too, its a great social thing.

and yeah, LAN parties rule Tongue

Smile I may look into playing the game although I'm not really into games.
I got to get him on AFF - you two have a lot in common

I went to a mates one once, what a load of shit.

I had no common ground with the speccy twirts whatsoever.

*is distinctly unsurprised*

yeah....did you actually, you know, PLAY?

One thing I'd advise against is getting an MSI motherboard.  With the 925XE the CPU/Ram ratio was permanently set at 3/4 or something like that.  Now I just paid up the azz at the time for 2GBs dual channel 667mhz OCZ gold edition & couldn't change the Ram frequency past 553mhz without massively Overclocking my CPU.

I tried everything, the local store tried everything & couldn't fix the ratio.  2 different MSI 925XEs fried on me for no reason.  I'm now using an MSI 945X & I didn't have any problems & can change the ratio but MSI still dosen't sound good.

Anyone else have this problem with any mobo?
hey Gareth, tell me what you think of this

I want one.or four.

my specs, let me show you them; (5.9 is the top of the chart)

I've got 2 questions;

1. Is that 8800GTS a G80 or a G92 (512mb)?
2. 32 or 64 bit operating system?

its a G80, and its never worked correctly - random lockups, blue screens.

I've gone back to a 3870.
