  Ok, I was bored...

Then again, after what abscout did with NT Speaks (you go girl!), maybe this would be the next way to show Autism Speaks' true colors...

Along those same lines (I'm just pure EEEvil tonight), given that AS won't hire autistic people, why don't we all apply with them, and make a big deal about suing for discrimination when they refuse to hire us?

  Just thinkin...  Wink

TheZach,

I think there may be a lot of misconceptions at AFF about what Autism Speaks does and doesn't do.I for one heard they do not hire Autistics. But that was here at AFF. I think they scare us when they depict us as 'trapped',and parents speak of killing there autistic children or want to look for ways to test the fetus so they can abort if it may be autistic.

I've heard they did hire autistic aduts but wasnt sure where I read that. Also, on seeing that they dont on AFF I emailed someone I know works for Autism Speaks she said they do hire autistic adults.  Smile She would know with attending meetings etc.

Not sure if anyone heard about Walgreens hiring 1/3 of its workforce as those with disabilities including autism, I think I saw it mentioned on here somewhere, but Autism Speaks is the organization behind that. They are even helping Walgreens open a new store in our area so it will create jobs.

I wasnt aware they were pro-cure until   I joined AFF. I thought they were primarily doing research to find causes. I do notice on their advertisements it does mention cures. So AFF is right on with that.

Breeze,
Thanks for clarifying that! I'd heard from different sources about Autism Speaks *not* hiring autistics, *not* having any autistics in leadership positions, and *not* allowing autistic people to speak at their events. All things considered - the way that Portia Iverson (founder of Cure Autism Now/Autism Speaks) depicts us in "Strange Son", just as an example - it's *not* hard to believe.

Autism Speaks *doesn't* go out of their way to portray us in anything resembling a positive light; far from it! They show autistic children in the *worst* possible light (the "Autism Every Day" video is a good example) so they can get donations; what they choose to *not* realize is that what *they* show the public is what the public *believes* about autism!

I'm glad that AS is helping people with disabilities find jobs at Walgreen's; if *that* was what they promoted - actually *supporting* autistic people - we wouldn't have *half* the issues that we do with them!  Smile

Your childish behavior that results from your poor sence of humor actually gives Autism Speaks backers a reason to point and say look how those idiots behave.  They have done so more then once on there forums.

TheZach,
No, they did it on *their* forums...

It's interesting how you characterize it, though; Autism Speaks backers say "look how those idiots behave". They *don't* say, "These people have a point"; they just dismiss us as "idiots", even though *we're* the people that they're *supposedly* HELPING!

Does it strike you as odd that the people at Autism Speaks have such a *patronizing* attitude about people who *have* autism?

godwins law.

Godwin's Law only applies if the person/organisation which you are comparing to Hitler/Nazis DOESN'T have a eugenecist policy. A certain organisation is openly pursuing a genetic test for Autism which has only one plausible use: to detect Autists before they are born and kill them.

Therefore, any comparison with Nazis is fair and reasonable, and Godwin's Law does not apply.

Tigger,
Besides which - given that my original logo was based on the Nazi Eagle - I think Godwin's Law was bypassed from the start...  Big Grin

Seeing as were using childrens book for a reference of standards of whats acceptable heres a childrens book that supports the treatment germans did to jews in WWII

or this one that promotes racism

So is it acceptable for me to be racist on here or promote the persecution of jews like they did in WWII?  I think not.

TheZach,
It's not acceptable to be a poopist, either...  Big Grin
