Big, Brash, Bullshit.
Don't talk about my future husband like that. I pretended to hate him, but really... he's just the kind of man I'd want to spend my life with

If you did badly in high school, it is because you have difficulties in memorising textbook facts. Intelligence is a much broader concept, and I consider memorising to be a very minor talent within this broad concept.
So I'd like to ask what is behind this current monopoly of 2-3 page long posts, going on now. Thankfully, it seems this trend comes and goes on AFF. But worse than that, there's a lot of intellectuality behind many of these posts and no Cliff's Notes in sight.
Have you folks ever considered that some people on AFF are not on your intellectual wavelength? Can't you make things user-friendly for those who do not have your gifts?
It goes back to the Pecking-Order thread. I've mentioned this many times before that, as well. I notice some users on here (will not name them) have intellectual credibility, and I do not. I imagine there may be others here like me, who feel the same way.
I don't feel it is necessary to divide discussion according to intelligence level, and yet--sadly--this appears to be how matters are naturally carried out. Evidence? Well, there are other members on AFF who are open about not being gifted. Just like me, I do not often see these specific members in long, complex, political-minded discussions...
What can we do to change this and make the playing field more even?
ATM: I, for one, will try my best to use better editing skills. I cannot guarantee shorter posts, but I will try to clarify concepts better. I think that I have moved in that direction over the past two months.
While I cannot entirely satisfy you, I will consider what you have asked of me. Sometimes my threads are a little longer than I would have hoped. Instead of length, I will focus on clarity.
And, lastly, I still don't understand this "not on your intellectual wavelength" concept. I am not patronizing you. I read your posts and they seem fine to me. That is the hones truth.
I suggest a moratorium on comparisons with others. Do not feel superior, inferior, or even equal. Don't ask for their opinions of you. Just be who you are. If that means you are artistic, then be that. Do not fault others for being mathematical, or whatever they are. Do not create threads that focus on comparisons between yourself and others. Be who you are---and be the best at who you are. When we talk about "flowering," we often forget that a flower is a flower and need not compare itself to a butterfly, a lady bug, or a beaver. So it is with us when we "flower."
My humble suggestion.
All the best.
I second that.
Batman,
I will not attempt to belabor the point any further. Let me forward a response from another thread:

I think that it says a lot of what I think. It is about children, and not adults, but to me it expresses a lot about what our real priorities should be. I think it addresses the root issue of what I am really trying to arrive at.
Here is another one along the same vein:

Oh, I always get the "you can always fall back on being righteous and a good citizen" in absence of any real ability. I don't believe in that, sorry. Here's why:
I was raised in affluent suburbs and taught that you need to go to college and do "as well as the peers in your age group" to have worth. That is how my father raised me. I have always been compared to other people. I don't know any other way.
ATM: Who says anything about the absence of any real ability? To be a righteous dude is a real ability. I strive for its cultivation.
In any case, I have stated my peace.
All the best.
