note, in this proposal, the centre of the green area (the park) is fenced out with trees and hedges etc, creating a grove, and containing a stone circle.
outside of that, is a "Zen Garden", and after that is the park proper, with...parky things..and symbols of religions past and present. see main thread for more details
It's also important that there's a secular park, for the nonreligious.
1. I think that we will want a distinctive "gateway" into the island.
2. What will the form of transport be in the community, cars, foot, bikes? We will need some powered vehicles to move goods and construction material around, if nothing else. Perhaps limit motor vehicles to set hours of the day?
3. Will the community be set in a grid, or more "organically"?
4. Will residences/businesses/government/cultural areas be seperated into districts, or mingle with each other?
I said it would be random.
Meh, Who wouldn't want statues of Vader and Palpatine dotted about?

bearing in mind that although I have helped get the ball rolling again, this isnt my project, its AFFs project
but as i would do it...
1) i had thought that a "Gateway" would be a good idea. using LiTraCon, polished steel, impressive looking materials et al. make a good impression
2 )this has been bothering me some...perhaps something akin to those old milk floats we used to have over here; slow, quiet, solar powered or electric machines. of course, with modern panels we could make it a bit more powerful
3)hm. I think that some areas should be somewhat planned, others not so. the relaxation and leisure areas should be freefrom, or at least not grid. note that i placed the religious area in a circle, to make them more "equal" ie: no religion is "first".
4)oh.blimey.er..? I think they should mingle to a degree, for convienence, but there should be limits on to what degree, for sake of tranqulity, peace and what have you.

My thought on this was that it would vary from place to place on the island (so, kind of what pika's saying). One thing I had in mind was a separate residential area, further from town than the rest of the residential buildings, which would have houses that are much more secluded- surrounded by extensive forest/plains/whatever habitat is on the island, with large natural yards, which would allow auties who are more sensitive to urban noise to get away, as well as allowing more nature-inclined auties to be surrounded by nature, not people.
I figure that most non-residential buildings, however, will be in denser and more planned-out layouts.
Also, on a side note, I think a "secular getaway" should be included as one of the religious buildings. However, which religions are represented and how is probably a better discussion for the culture thread.
Any thoughts?
I don't really see any reason for that. The only difference in tags I could think of is that for autistic visitors, they may need to carry a card or something explaining some of their more threatening-looking quirks, so security doesn't assume they are going to become violent/are drunk/are on drugs/etc when they are not. But then, security personnel will be highly trained in dealing with autistics and may be autistic themselves, so that may not be as big an issue.
As for the tourist thing.... I don't know that we'd want all of our tourist-y buildings right together. On the one hand, people like it when they don't have to drive a bunch to get to the next sight-seeing location. On the other hand, they DO like walking through "scenic downtown" areas, seeing the actual place where people live, and encountering real citizens. This would be especially true on Autfinity island, where the citizens are pretty unusual themselves.
So perhaps touristy locations should be dispersed in a small area around the entrance? Have tourists go through the visitor center and register before they're allowed to go on to the rest of Autfinity. Then they step out of the visitor center into a wide boulevard lined with shops and other buildings. There could be a museum right there, and a restaurant. If they continue down the boulevard, they reach a plaza with a fountain (so they can oooh and aaahh over how pretty it is), surrounded by a round-about. The street branches here. If they go left, they'll get into Aspie downtown, with more shops, restaurants, and of course, buildings that host educational workshops, which will probably be one of the prime forms of entertainment on the island, other than movies. If they go right, they pass some aspie residential housing and then reach their hotel.
Whatdy'a think?

I think I'm giving up my attempts to draw the layouts/designs. I don't have the technical skill to translate my vision accurately. I do however have the technical skill to translate it to writing. Descriptive narrative is my strong point. So I will try to write up some detailed descriptions of how I think it should look/function, and hopefully someone else will be able to draw up some pieces based on my writing and the input of others.
ok.
Guess I'll write them then.
ya try and delegate....
It's your fault mind
making it all mundane.
