justified any way possible

The abuse suffered by the cattle in that video showed some of the worst conditions imaginable. I in no way condone such awful treatment of animals and the point of my post was not to justify such things as running cattle over with vehicles when they can't stand. The point of my post was to explain why humans act the way they do.

I already do not eat fast food both because I cannot verify where the meat, eggs, or milk came from, so I cannot know what conditions the animal that produced it lived in. I always verify that my animal products come from animals not confined to small enclosures like those poor chickens. I do this because I feel there is a better way to gain our animal products. I know that eggs can be produced from chickens allowed to roam in an open field. I know that beef can from cattle in open pasture. I know milk doesn't have to be produced from sedentary cows.

I also know that people do not need to consume so much meat, and indeed, did not do so in the past. Therefore I limit my servings of meat as much as possible. I seldom eat meat more than twice a week.

I find it highly ironic that McCain wants to be humane to terrorists in Gitmo, yet he is just fine with being inhumane toward autistic children

That's not irony! That's hypocrisy at best.

Well, I don't expect any politician to know everything about autism.

At least he didn't say he supports groups like "Autism Speaks"

I heard Hillary was in bed with them.
I agree, especially with the VP coming out and saying that she just about murdered her daughter.
I don't know if anyone has done these numbers here.

Supposedly one in 150 children is believed to be autistic.

But the chances that a sibling has autism is one in 15

Now, there are 300 million people in the US.  That means 2 million people in the US are autistic.

But if one in 15 of their siblings are autistic, that tells me there are probably 15 times as many people that have the right genetic makeup to develope autism than actually have it.

2 million x 15= 30 million people.

Currently, 90% of the people that have the right genetic code to develop Down Syndrome are aborted.

90% of 30 million= 27 million.

That tells me that there are probably 27 million people that would have been aborted that are alive in the US alone if a prenatal test for autism had been developed before they were born.

But there are only 2 million autistics.

That means 25 million people that are nuerotypicals that would have been aborted because their parents were afraid of autism, at the very least.

All these numbers equal a lot of people.
I don't know why a parent with a autistic kid would be dumb enough to expect a moronic idiot to take care of her kid.
That's just the thing.  The genetic code doesn't cause autism, but worried parents that don't know any better will think it does and get the abortion.
why do you all think people are so afraid of raising an autistic child?
And the scare-mongery of havinga child that's different.
But raising any child is a 24/7 job.  Why are autistic children getting picked on like that?

Demonizing vaccines means that they present autism as something very bad, and a disappointment if you get a child with it.

Heard those parents who describe getting their child diagnosed as experiencing a death in the family?

Yes!!  And I wanted to scream at Jenna McCarthy for doing that.

Actually no, that's not true. With an NT child, the 24/7 only applies until school starts - if that if you can afford child care. With an autistic child it's right the way through childhood, and child care is not an option. And with an NT child you can get just a regular babysitter. No chance of that with an Autistic child.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.  What about child care providers that are skilled in dealing with autistic kids?

Besides, when you have a child no one garuntees it's going to be easy.

People that are not ready to deal with special needs children and get help when they need it are not ready to have kids at all.

But still, why the autistic kids?  All sorts of issues cause that and support services for them are still woeful.

I think that fear of people that are different plays a huge part in this, as well as a temptation to want to pidgeon-hole people and ignore them when they challenge us.

You answered your question in the second paragraph, Morning.

But it's still stupid.

people only do themselves a disservice when they behave like this.

I know of a local mother who has three autistic children. Some people looked disapprovingly at her when she was shopping at a local supermarket because she had reins on all three. There was an article in the local paper about it. She said the reins were there because otherwise the children would run away and possibly get out onto the road and get hit by a car.

You can tell her that I was 'looked at disapprovingly' way back in the 'Eighties when I had three on reins too Sad. People thought they had the right to criticise, especially about the oldest; "Isn't he too old to be on reins?"

But I couldn't exactly abandon the two younger ones to chase after him when he ran - they would have run too. Bah! Tongue

Safety first and take no damn notice of stupid people.

I'm not sure why there would have been so much disapproval of using reins. I certainly don't see them very often now but mum used them when she had four children under 6.

My mom had to use them on my brother.  When he was small my parents could not keep up with them at all.
