I saw a news report where McCain was answering questions to a mom about autism.  He didnt mention vaccines then. I think he said his wife worked with autistic children.
Heh. No argument from me.
I pray to God that Hillary doesn't get nominated. If I'm stuck between having to choose for Hillary or McCain, I'm leaving the country.

Can't be worse than Huckabee who would probably demand that everyone on the Autistic spectrum be exorcised of demons.

I wouldn't doubt it. He's the same guy that thinks HIV can be transmitted just by walking by someone.

Huckabee...thinks? Tongue

The answer is not to run away, the answer is to fix it, unless of course, you're a Jew and you're in Nazi Germany.

This country's government, like all others, is broken beyond repair. If I spoke fluent German and had an education sufficient to get a good job, I would move to Liechtenstein in a heartbeat. Or Andorra, if I spoke Catalan. They are the only two free Western countries left.

LOL! Big Grin
Actually, I kind of like Hillary.  She's actually very well respected in the Senate by and Democrats and Republicans alike (they just don't speak it above a whisper) ... Too bad she has Bill attached. Obama is just air...and McCain... oh, now you've just gotten me depressed. Iceman I might just have to book a ticket with you.
Exactly how I feel

I am beginning to wonder if declaring war on Iran back in 1979 wouldn't have forestalled some of our problems in the present: I mean, there are those on the Discovery Times channel who suggest on specials like Guests of the Allytollah that our hesitation during the Carter administration strengthened the resolve of later terrorists.  We would have had international law as an excuse in 1979 (to storm an embassy is an act of war).  I don't know, though.  Every flap of a butterfly's wings, a ripple effect, what would that have done to U.S.-Soviet history???

We should have never backstabbed the Shah in the first place.

Two words: Secret Service. Wink
What did she say?

Clinton, even though I'm usually pretty liberal (and not only because of what she's said about autism, BTW).

Chimera is a perfect example why dispise PETA and other dogmatic, ideological millitant vegans. Do livestock need to be treated better? of f*cking course. Is that an agument for not eating meat? absolutely not. In my experience all the vegans I've run into are suburban yppies that probably think chocholate milk comes from brown cows. Comparing livestock to historically opressed groups of people is an insult to those people.
EZ,
Not sure if you know but Autism Speaks is who got Walgreens into hiring those with autism. They are even helping open new stores -which will increase jobs.  You can slide that into support services Smile

I have a friend who works for Autism Speaks so I get my info from her. They also have autistic adults on their staff from what she has told me and seen.

The research is the bad side of Autism Speaks - or at least, the worst of many bad sides.

The "right sort of research" would be research into training programs, support services, etc - none of which Autism Speaks actually does. When Autism Speaks talks about research, they are generally talking about genetic research - i.e. pre-natal testing or "cure" research.

The bottom line is that Autism Speaks was set up to fund research into an autism cure, as, in their own words, "other autism related charities are solely focused on support services".

There is nothing salvageable about them, and no way to encourage their nonexistent "good qualities". The only ethical thing a politician could do with Autism Speaks is denounce them, or ignore them.

Anything less is not acceptable.

They also give $10,000 grants to schools. I'm sure there must be other things that I havnt heard of. At least I would hope so.

I dont think its so bad to find causes, as I would like to know that info but I'm not keen on them doing it for prenatal testing.

True - criticism has led them to do a few token things, but the large majority of their funding goes into research. After all, how much effort does it take to make a few phone calls to the store?

If they decided to abandon the majority of their work to concentrate on support services, then no problem - but their purpose, their reason to be, is to fund research into the cause of autism.

Prenatal testing isnt always accurate. I know of two people who were told their baby had downs and the dr. recommended abortion - they did not and their baby did NOT have downs syndrome. I personally think it ridiculous to do prenatal testing which is why I refused to do the quad screen ( http://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/quad-marker-screen ) . Even if they do come out with a prenatal test for autism, I wouldnt do it.
