Your Local T.J. Maxx and the National Alliance for Autism Research Team Up for National Autism Awareness Month to Raise Funding and Generate Awareness
- Program to Feature Celebrity Auction of Signed Puzzles by the Cast of Joan of Arcadia, Patricia Heaton, Drew Carey and Others
During April, National Autism Awareness Month, The National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) will continue their successful relationship with T.J. Maxx to raise funding for autism research. Beginning today, March 28th, the "Footprints" program will take place at close to 800 stores throughout the country and will run through April 17, 2005. T.J. Maxx invites customers to purchase a NAAR Footprint at check-out for a donation of $1. No purchase is necessary to make a donation, and all proceeds will benefit NAAR. Last year the partnership raised more than $500,000 for NAAR.
"We are very grateful for our customers and our associates generosity last year and we are honored to once again team with NAAR for this years Footprints Campaign. Funding research for autism is a critical need as the incidence for autism continues to increase in this country and around the world," said Ted English, President and CEO of The TJX Companies, Inc. "We are also very excited to expand our program to include a celebrity auction which we hope will raise additional funding for NAAR. We are especially grateful to the celebrities who took the time to autograph these puzzles for this great cause!"
In addition to the Footprints program, T.J. Maxx will also host an online auction of educational puzzles autographed by a variety of celebrities to raise additional funding for NAAR. Educational toys carried at T.J. Maxx, including large wooden puzzles and plastic bath books are great for cognitive development in all children, including those affected by autism. These signed puzzles will be auctioned off for 7 days via EbayŽ, beginning on April 18, 2005.
The two autographed puzzles are:
* The cast of the CBS program Joan of Arcadia (Joe Mantegna, Mary
Steenburgen, Amber Tamblyn, Jason Ritter, Michael Welch, Christopher
Marquette and Becky Wahlstrom)
* Drew Carey of The Drew Carey Show, Dave Chappelle of The Dave Chappelle
Show, Chris Noth of Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Patricia Heaton
of Everybody Loves Raymond.
"We are again honored to partner with T.J. Maxx to raise critically needed funds for autism research and to broaden awareness about autism and the important role research plays," said Prisca Chen Marvin, chair of the NAAR Board of Trustees, and the parent of a child with autism. "We are also grateful for the support of NAAR Honorary Board Member Joe Mantegna, the cast of Joan of Arcadia and all of the celebrities taking part in the auction to benefit NAAR. Together, we will unravel the mysteries of this devastating disorder."
The auction will begin on Monday, April 18th and run though Sunday, April 24th. Log onto EbayŽ on April 18th to access the auction. 100% of proceeds raised through this auction will go to NAAR.
