Who do you guys think will win?

Here are my selections for the categories I'm interested in.

Best Movie: There Will be Blood

Best Actress: Cate Blanchett

Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett

Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis

Best Supporting Actor: Casey Affleck.

Best Original Screenplay: Juno

Best adapted Screenplay: No Country for Old Men
To be honest, there are only a couple movies on the list of nominees that I think deserve to win any award at all.  I'm sick of the "It has lots of gore, violence, and sick stuff?  Let's give it an award!" approach the academy has been taking.  There are always exceptions, but not all of them deserve awards anyway, and plenty of movies that do, get ignored- like Paprika, which was not on that list at all, and Across The Universe which was only on it once (It was a brilliant movie, it should have been on for several other awards as well).

I haven't seen Juno, and I'm not sure I want to.  I read a review of it.  It's very anti-abortion.  I do like that it promotes the idea we should accept and support young mothers, but the way to go about doing that is not to villify abortion.  (just to clarify, I am pro-choice, but with restrictions and lots of education thrown in- "keep abortion safe, legal, and RARE").

Yeah. The Best Animated Feature category baffled me this year. They had only three nominations they missed Paprika and they also missed The Simpsons Movie which was great.
Wasn't really that interested in many of the movies up for awards either.
I watched the Academy Awards for the first time ever this year, because some of my friends were having an "Oscar Party". I started laughing when Jack Nicholson got up on the stage and started talking, and I thought Jon Stewart hosted the ceremony pretty well.

I had only seen a couple of the movies that were up for awards, so I was very confused about what was going on most of the time.
To be honest, I thought that a lot of those up for nomination were quite mediocre. (From an Oscars perspective)
I saw something about the awards on Hollywood Report (tv-show) and there was some footage of the area were the ceremony would take place and it just didn't seem real. It's just a stage production. When Björk was there to recieve an award for her role in Dancer in the Dark wearing her Swan Outfit, it was too eccentric for Hollywood. The movie was shot in Sweden. Vänersborg, I believe.

The great film festivals are much more interesting as there's tons of movies on them.
