A question from a Floridian for those of you in Utah... Is there any noticeable independent film industry in your state?
I'm a fan of weird independent film (e.g. the products of Odessa and Troma) and have been subjected to at least two bizarre pieces from Utah. But it's okay, because the more bizarre an independent film is, the better.
The first is titled The Passion of the Johnson, about a private investigator named Johnson who is obsessed with mustard. This one is about 30 or 40 minutes and included on the TromaDance, vol. 4 DVD. (Incidentally, TromaDance is one of those smaller filmfests that cluster around Sundance.)
The other is titled Pirates of the Great Salt Lake, about two guys who live near the lake and decide they want to be pirates, one of those not-connected-to-reality sort of comedies. I saw a screening of that at a sci-fi convention last year.
Are these films in any way representative of people's sense of humor in that part of the country?
