UK Government urged to act on World Autism Day 2008
    * world autism day

Autism Campaigners are calling on Her Majesty's Government to take firm and decisive action on World Autism Day, scheduled for 2nd April 2008. World Autism Day was designated by the United Nations in New York on the recommendation of Qatar.

Ivan Corea, head of the Autism Awareness Campaign UK called on the Government to take firm action on autism and Asperger's Syndrome and spell out their plans on how they would help with better public services on World Autism Day this year. Over 90 MPs have signed Harry Cohen's early day motion 705 on autism in the House of Commons calling on the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Children's Secretary Ed Balls to launch a national strategy on autism and a 10 year plan of action on autism and Asperger's Syndrome.

Baroness Pola Uddin, speaking in the House of Lords in parliament urged Gordon Brown to launch an autism taskforce and consult more widely. Lee Scott MP has initiated an autism bill in the House of Commons - the second reading takes place in May this year.

thanks for the heads up on the date.  Now I'll go and watch the video.
Cheers
Thanks for posting this. I can't access youtube from work but will have a look at the weekend.

And, on a lighter note, does anyone find the langue used a bit overzealous? "decisive action", "national strategy" - you'd think they were talking about some kind of security threat!
Hmm... I saw some dreadful examples of poor spelling but the worst was "austic" were it should have read "autistic"...
And I just realised I wrote "langue" where I meant "language" in my previous post, so I guess I am in no position to criticise!

It was in the video the spelling was a bit off.

I noticed a terrible misspelling in a post I made on another forum. It was as if I'd misspelled the word "as" and adding an "s".

Yes! The language is rather aggressive, we must act... As if there's an enemy within that needs to be brought into the light for their own good. Because they're weak, they can't decide for themselves what's best for them. Doesn't sound reassuring...
