I'm a lot of us spend time reading about other places; though it's very interesting it still lacks the experience of being there. So I thought it would be neat to learn more about where everyone on this forum lives.
Here in northern Illinois it can get a bit boring especially when driving; there's nothing to see except grass and farmland. There are a few forests here and there, but prairies are more dominant.
It's sort of rare for snow to last very long, winters are wet and muddy of the time (although right now there quiet a bit of snow which is nice). The summers can get pretty hot, but it's probably not as humid as it would be further south. Of the times of year I like fall and winter the most (when there snow of course), I like the cool air.
I live near Chicago, which is lucky for me because anywhere else in this state would be rural. Every now and then you'll hear a Chicago accent, my Dad has a slight one, most people don't.
One of most surprising things you'd find in this area is the large Hispanic community. In the last school I was in about 30% of everyone was Hispanic. Because of this there are a lot of Mexican restaurants and stores. You can also get Chicago speciality like deep dish pizza and Italian beef sandwiches (which aren't actually Italian), but seafood, to my dismay, is really expensive.
In the town I live in (Batavia) there's an import Physics research lab, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, or Fermilab. They've made some very important discovery, the most notable being the top quark. They've also got some very interesting architecture and nature trails.
So that's pretty much the inside scoop of where I live, I might post more later.
