I wonder how many more businesses support AS or CAN.

Today, Toys"R"Us and the Toys"R"Us Children's Fund, announced their continued support of Autism Speaks, an organization dedicated to facilitating research that will uncover the causes of autism, develop effective biomedical treatments and hasten the discovery of a cure. For the second consecutive year, Toys"R"Us will serve as the national sponsor of the Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism program, a series of more than 75 fundraising walk events held in communities across the country.
I was going to go there to get Lego tonight. Glad I didn't now!
Well i'll have no part of this attempted sabotage ;p
At least I am not tempted too heavily, as the toys r us around here moved out a couple years ago.
Given the way their name is spelled, shouldn't they be focusing on dyslexia instead?

Snigger.
Actually, that's one of my pet hates. No wonder lots of children can't spell when they have such examples to learn from, ToysRUs, Kwik Save, Krispy Kreme. Aaaaaaaargh!!!!!!
"Judging by our nomenclature, thusly we are playthings."
The new fun toy store idea I had

From the Toys R Us website:

National Partnership With Autism Speaks
In 2007, the Toys "R" Us Children's Fund provided a $250,000 grant to Autism Speaks to help fund autism research and advocacy. Autism is a heartbreaking disorder that inhibits a child's ability to communicate and form relationships. Part of a group of disorders known as Autism Spectrum Disorders, autism is more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined, affecting one in 150 children in the United States. As a company with a long history of advocating for all children, Toys "R" Us is united in its commitment with Autism Speaks to provide a voice for children and families affected by autism. Toys "R" Us is the national sponsor of the Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism program, a series of fundraising walk events in communities across the country. Additionally, in conjunction with Autism Awareness Month in April, Toys "R" Us conducted a seven-week, in-store fundraising campaign, in all of its locations nationwide. The program raised more than $1.1 million to benefit Autism Speaks.

Have been getting donuts from the Krispy Kreme since the second day it was opened in Manchester, and am still keep thinking it's called the Krusty Krab [like in spongebob squarepants],they are too similar.
i think its a profit thing. a few possible outlooks...
-they probabaly have some study that shows that autistic kids desire less toys than NT kids.
-or maybe they think all the money spent on thearapy for young autists is hurting their sales.
-there also prolly tring to cut down on autie meltdowns in their store, bad for business.
most likely their teaming up with autspeak is backed by some sort of "research" and not just them being ignorant about autism. whatever the reason, ill be buying the two new wii bowling games from someone else.
It is probably a profit thing, but I don't think it's as direct as you're saying, matthe.
Consider:
Large donations often exempt people and corporations from a portion of their taxes.
The reputation of a company can increase if they are thought to be altruistic.
Reputation isn't a concrete thing; but in the NT world it is very real--as real as cash money; often more so. They are trying to look good; and like many companies, they find donating to charities to be an effective way to accomplish this.
Chances are they don't even really look into the issues surrounding Autism Speaks before they donate; they just want to find something that is appropriately well-known; and autism is very much in the news nowadays.
We actually contacted them previously about this, not to put too fine a point on it but they're lieing scumbags by the look of things.
