My very favorite dystopic novel is Dahlgren by Samuel Delaney.
Be careful, though, I don't think it was actually written to be read for entertainment. Also, it's definitely for grown-ups, and would probably be illegal these days if any of the current crop of right-wing dingbat censors ever read it.
Parts of it kinda hurt your head. And it can be disappointing if you expect a regular plot structure
But other parts will stick in my head for the rest of my life - and there is very little I can say that about ;-)
I'd be very interested in what others get from it.
Luckily i'm hoping to help steer society away from dystopia, with my business ideas.
What business ideas???
Who likes it? who thrives on it?
I live it
and I avoid it....I read magical fantasy or time travel to eascape from it. I don't care for novels, but occationally I find one that works. I HATE romance (pucking noises)!!
How are you honing your skills?
Please, enlighten me.
Put the sniper rifle down mate.
I don't think I can handle anymore headshots.
I am sorry if my question felt like a head shot
. I am truly curious. Enquiring minds want to know....and all that.
I am sure my coworkers feel the same when I quiz them closely about something. But it is entirely just my disabled way of being interested.
What? Mine was a mere question as to how you are doing it?
Methinks someone takes things too personally because I have done what he aspires.

I think that "1984" is the all-time classic. As far as Huxley's "Brave New World" would be concerned, it is a lot like his Utopian classic "Island," making the whole concept of a civilization based on pleasure weird and paradoxical. "1984" is more of a clear-cut attack on Stalinism.

Heh, 1984...well...what can I say.
I'd probably top myself if I had to endure such an existence, and I do NOT say that lightly.
Well, to me "1984" is the all-time dystopia. I certainly would not want to live there either!
My personal ultimate dystopia was Animal Farm.

Another good one by Orwell! I would still have to vote for 1984 as the all-time scariest.

Yeah, but Animal Farm broke my heart.....

Thank you. I hope that I am understood correctly.

Blade Runner, Final Fantasy 7, those William Gibson books, and even the original trilogy of Starwars, all examples of this genre.
I just love the...decay of it all, especially evident in FF7...random junk lieing about in the countryside, much like in Russia (lol) such as Corel Prison in FF7, mass grave after Shinra burnt the village down cuz they said no to a reactor, prison, junk yard...full of all sorts of junk that looks like it's just sat there for years.
I'm sick, I don't care.
Play BioShock or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. , both available for PC. You'll love 'em.
I discovered quite a good dystopic movie on the weekend - and it's a comedy dystopia, which is a rare find.
Idiocracy - great movie.
Babylon 5.
its the future! everything is shiny!...except, its really really not.
