So... I have temporary access to a scanner so I scanned some of my pics onto the computer.
These are just some creatures I made up 'cos I like to make up things. No other reason required, I suppose.

Damn thing's not working. Hang on a moment...

Wow. What else can I say?
WOW!
Awesome!
I loved drawing fantasy creatures when I was younger - but yours are WAY better!
Thanx.
They all started out basically like the first unfinished one -- which was first lines, then bones, then muscle, then fur or whatever else. I found that drawing from the bones up makes for a much more "quasi-realistic" finish and it's always good to find out what it comes to in the end. (Never quite what's in my head.) I doubt I could reproduce any of those.

That "first unfinished" one looks like it has just been caught reaching for a piece of cake that it shouldn't take without asking - by someone who it knows is going to give it the cake anyway!
Sorry, that last sentence was a bit convoluted!
I just trial and fail until the proportions seem somewhat correct.
Very nice pictures.

Fantastic. People thought I drew good monsters when I was a kid but really I was just tracing from a coloring book and failing to mention that LOL. Other artists like Davinci studied anatomy of what was under the skin which made them better painters. What an interesting method you have. Do you draw other things?
Yeah. Lots. Just scribbling, mostly. Just for fun. And sometimes I draw characters and places from stories to get a better / more concrete idea of what they are like.
Did you have any previous classes/training in art that might have developed your ability here?
Not particularly -- I mean I did Art in year 7 because it was a required subject, and then a short course in my last year of school, but it's mostly just been trial, error, observation &c. I never went particularly well in Art class because I never really responded well to having to do what other people told me to do, to be honest.
It seems you'd have to know something about anatomy, or at least how to "layer" a figure to get it rendered properly, to do this. I'm guessing most people would not be able to draw like this without significant practice or study.
um... Not sure. Again, it's a matter of observation to know (very basically) how bones etc fit together. And watching the people who do archaeological models of faces off those skulls they dig up etc. I've done a few skull tracings (just to see) would love to be able to do it properly -- those people are so meticulous and wouldn't it just be one of the best jobs ever??
Tell you what I would love to do and that's good backgrounds, but somehow once I done the foreground, I just can't stay that interested.

nyanchan - those are very impressive. Looks like a lot of effort has gone into the anatomy. Do your creatures have a world?
Erm.... Only in my head. I imagine they might just come from the same world, though.
I would like your thoughts on my spatial learning impairment, how I can get around it to draw like you.. and so on. You're the one with the academic background, perhaps you'd have pointers for me...
mm... Would have to think about that. To be honest, I don't know how much I could come up with. Nor how useful it would be.
