I have no desire to take my child to a psychiatrist to be tested, but if there were a test that I could look at or a list of signs of aspergers in children, that would be helpful. I know it's not exactly the same for everyone, so how do I know?

You educate yourself.  Young children and children only mildly different from NT children are the most difficult to label.  Girls present differntly than boys.  check out http://www.amazon.com/Different-Like-Me-...1843108151

Just in case the information you educate yourself with rings true for your child, I did a quick google search for you, but I just found information that describes deficits.  It is harder for AS people in a NT-dominated world, and NT is the 'yardstick,' and we are describe by how and in what ways we differ - so it sounds bad.  Look for information that is positive and describes ways to help your child be comfortable in a NT world.  Just today, I read an interesting theory (see the research link pretty far down on the forum page (there is a link in the author's post).  AND keep coming back here; ask us anything!!

There's a free test here that is sometimes used by diagnosticians:  http://www.enigma2u.dircon.co.uk/ACT/ACTframes.html

It divides the results by category so you can see your child's characteristics on a sliding scale instead of represented by a number.  Several people on this board have found it really useful.  I hope you do too.  Smile
Thank you so much!!

I tried that one, but my test was bounced back from the authors' mailboxes.....let me know if others are still getting through.
