Anyone like sewing, knitting or baking?  I am also interested in housekeeping and organizing since I am not very good at it.  I am trying to make my own cleaners.  I tried to make soap once and it turned out bad.  I have some lye but I never tried it again.

I made soap once. It smelt awful! I still bake frequently, but gave up knitting and sewing years ago. My arthritic fingers don't like holding needles.

I knit a little - although the most ambitious thing I have managed is a scarf!

I started when I was 12 because I was in Girl Guides at the time and we had to learn to knit and then each knit a square approx 6x6in. These were then joined to form big blankets to send to orphanages in North Africa.

I do a bit of baking, but I don't have a lot of confidence with this.

I sew when I absolutely have to. I'd love to make my own clothes but  I am not good enough as sewing.
I knit and sew.  For the former, I've made tons of stuff, including some of my own designs.  With sewing, I make plush dolls dolls (mostly of characters or fan characters from anime that aren't well-known enough in the U.S. to be merchandised, or of minor/disliked characters who never get merchandise made of them anyways).  I want to learn how to sew other outfits at some point, too.
Cool.  We had a friend who used to collect these little dolls that an English woman made.  They were all characters from Dickens novels.

I learned to knit when I was 10 and have recently taken it back up, though I do as I am able. I love to bake. Right now there is a loaf of cranberry spice bread in the oven to go with the pumpkin soup I've made for dinner. Sewing or any kind of needlework is just too tiny for me. Makes me feel cramped and a little buggy. If I had to do it I'd probably do fine, but I don't have to do it.

Big Grin That sounds like a really nifty collection.  When I think about it, there really should be more plushes of literary characters.

I like quilting.  And cross-stitch, though I prefer using a computer program to create my own designs as opposed to the premade kits you buy in craft stores...I like knitting so far, but I'm learning very slowly...and I love baking, though I doubt I'll ever be as good at it as my mother tried to make me!   I make great cheesecakes, though.

I am one of those housekeepers who are obsessive over some details, and other things I'll never notice until someone else points them out....like I can't stand the sight of dirty dishes but I never notice dust until it's practically an inch thick.
Actually, they were not so plushy.  They were covering in fabric with fabric clothing but they were more like some type of wire armature underneath covered with batting and then cloth.  I think some of the face was painted on.

Does anyone know how I can meet other women my age who like to sew, knit and bake?  I would also like to get a job housekeeping but any agency I call says I don't have any experience.  They will hire people immigrants though.

I knit, sew, make my own jewelry, and like to try new crafts whenever I get the opportunity.  I enjoy doing housework when I'm not being forced to do housework, or when I'm sick.  I've always been frightened of cooking, but I've been doing more of it lately and am starting to enjoy it- I want to be able to cook lots of meals for myself before leaving for college, so I have been trying hard to learn new recipes and techniques and stuff.
I used to only be able to knit scarfs, but recently I've tried being more adventurous.  I knit a bag recently- unfortunately it's so stretchy you can't really put anything in it unless it's very light, but it looks good and it was fun.  Smile  My brother used to knit bookmarks.
I can't purl, either.  I've tried to learn it three times, and I always mess it up.  Has anyone else here had trouble learning to purl?
I do a bit of embroidery. (does that count?) Mostly I draw onto one of those Maths graph paper first and design my own 'cos I don't particularly like the predone designs you find in books.

Try to get some good illustrated instructions.  My mom could not teach me to knit.  I learned from books.

I like knitting machines though but I have to do tension squares first and make calculations.  It takes less time to actually knit but then I end up doing much ripping out and rewinding wool.  The machine is not so portable either.

Am I too late for this thread? I sew and worked for a few years in a fabric shop. I like to knit socks because they are portable and I can finish a pair before I lose interest. Oddly, even if I buy expensive yarn, I don't like wearing them. I currently do more fancy cooking than baking. I'm a reformed hippie: I use to do everything from scratch. Now I'm just exhausted.
