geez if the show is going to use that myth atleast they could get the vaccine correct.
It would be cool to see Judging Amy or whoever say something like:

"Raising an autistic child can be hard, but it is something that has to be done, and we can't continue to blame people for what we have to live with"

I like that, although the same could be said for raising *any* child...

Just read about that. While it aggravates me to see lies put up as entertainment, I do think it's cool the kid in the show IS apparently autistic. Nice to see the Pediatricians group is getting on ABC's case about it too.

Now if they could have real Japanese folks playing Japanese folks in movies as well, all would be well in my world Wink

Another article about the show: http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/01/29...index.html
Well, they HAVE been blaming the flu shots lately; so they didn't get the info wrong entirely. MMR was just the first one they did blame. (I think they switched to influenza after it was revealed that MMR without the mercury still didn't change autism rates. Clinging like barnacles to their theory...)
Hello,

I am glad the pediatricians are against the show, and it also is interesting how for once someone actually with Autism is playing a fictional character with Autism. However, I find it troubling that many people accept what is said on these television shows as medical fact. For example: almost everyone I know my age watches the American TV series “House” about an amazing (fictional) doctor, and most of these people think that everything said there is proven medical information. I have seen two episodes, including one which included a condition I possess (Synaesthesia), and believe me; nothing they say is medically sound in the real world.

Personally I didn't like that an autistic kid is put in a show if he's then portrayed as a victim of his autism.
??? Is the kid autistic In Real Life or is the kid portraying an autistic kid? In any which way it's a difficult character to be able to do without getting stuck in stereotypes. It would be hard for an adult actor too.
I think an Aspie would be great at portraying somebody with full-blown autism. I mean, we've already got the little stuff down; now all we need to do is learn the character, like with any role. It would eliminate the need to copy somebody else's neurology on top of everything. I wonder how many Aspie actors are out there...
Hopefully, we won't lose face!
