He is by far my biggest influence when it comes to writing, and I can't stop reading his books! In fact, his latest one, Duma Key, is not in the library yet, but I've told them to hold on to it for me.
I love Stephen King novels, hadn't heard about "Duma Key", can you give a plot outline?
At one point I had EVERYTHING he wrote, and read and reread them a zillion times. I still have most of them.
I'm not so much into him anymore- ever since Misery. I like his graphic horror stuff...once he started writing stories about more mundane issues I lost interest. That being said, Cell was good (the only one I've really liked since way back). My fav book is Tommyknockers and fav short story was The Mist (haven't seen the movie tho). In fact, in the early 80s I read it and wrote him a letter cause I was so impressed. He sent a postcard back to ME! Not just a form letter and it was signed. I still have it

I really liked Firestarter.
I am more of a fan of King's short stories, since I usually lack the patience for novels. "The Boogeyman"---that is how to write an ending! O_O
writing.. is that revolver ocelot or albert from RE in your avatar?
*grins* I'm quite a fan - I used to love trying to plot out the "big story" that ran through all of his books - I was almost saddened when it all seemed to finish with the final "Dark Tower" book.
My favourite was "Wolves of the Calla". If we were talking stand-alone books, my favourite would have to be "The Talisman".
As far as I'm concerned, he's second only to Clive Barker - Stephen King can captivate you, but I think Clive's books actually change you as a person in some subtle way. Or at least, they did for me...
I thought that! I love Metal Gear! Ocelot is so camp sometimes, I love him
Anyway *cough* back to SK guys lo
I enjoyed Stephen King when I was younger, but really do not like reading horror any more. I prefer my reading material less gory these days.
Wait a minute... did I just type that?
NOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo
I'm turning into MY MOTHER!!!!
I'm like that too (and i'm only 24) - I used to love my horror movies but I turned down the chance to watch Hostel and run out of the room whenever its suggested to me lol

I know what you mean! It seems we all do- eventually- even while (desperately) trying not to
I don't read much horror at all except Stephen King (or "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz)
and just read '1408' last night. Will I ever stay in a hotel room again?!?
I just bought Duma Key, and so far it's awesome, and the only qualm I have is that it's narrated in 1st person when I prefer 3rd. Oh well.
I was never a huge Stephen King fan until I read his Dark Tower series...from start to finish it was one of the best stories I've ever read. I think my favourite DT book was "Wizard and Glass".
I absolutely love king.
Has anyone had any really creepy things happen when they are reading a Kng book, or another horror novel?
I have had severel but this is my favorite:
One of the times I was reading "It", I had to go to this festival thing. I was just sitting by myself reading, when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I was at the point of one of the particularly descriptive murders, and when I looked behind me there was a clown that looked exactly like the one cast in the movie it. I started freaking out and when he asked me if I wanted a baloon, I just kept screaming that I wanted him to get the heck away from me.
