I am thinking about getting nanny job.  This one is temporary only.

I need to get a police reference check.  I want to get a copy of it to keep, otherwise I will have to get this done and pay for it every time I apply for a nanny job.  I applied to an agency before and she got me to fill out the form but I don't think she ever sent it in.  She also never called my references but still sent me out on an interview.  I don't like giving out all that personal information unless I am hired.  I am worried about identity fraud too.

I don't know how to get references?  I haven't worked longer than a few months for several years now.  I just have a few personal references -- people I know from church.  I don't have any work references and I don't trust any former employers or people I used to work with.  I think this is holding me back from getting work.  Some people don't even call me for an interview.  They just call where I used to work and ask people about me.  I even had a few employers tell me that I was lying about my education.  I have my degrees in my unmarried name but I don't tell people that unless they ask.

This is causing me so much stress.

I am also worried about people using nannycams.
Hi M,

Not sure how urgent your situation is, or whether you are from UK. If you have time, it would not be a bad idea to do some volunteer work at a local Primary School. In the UK they would automatically do a CRB (police) check on you, they would pay for it and give you a copy of the certificate too. It would also be a good way to get a good source of relevant references for the future.

A word of warning, CRB checks can take about 3 months to come through.

If your situation is a bit more urgent, and you live in the UK. Get a copy of "The Lady" magazine, they carry a lot of ads for "Mothers Helps", the jobs tend to involve housework as well as child-minding, but they do tend to be "live-in" and the families are not always insistent on prior experience or work-related references.

Hope that helps.
I reckon doing housework AND looking after the kids would be fairly challenging.

you could have cleaning frenzies (everyone helps -its fun), which is how I kept my house reasonable.

Sometimes nannied children are used to dealing with hired help and don't expect to be part of that.  The parent can be particulary interfering about such things.  I was a nannie in the 1970s.
