i've signed up to the autism speaks chatbord so i can reply to the "brain disorder" person. heh heh.

I have finally finished my reply to the person. It was very hard not to insult him and i had to take out some of my comments so it will be taken seriously such as "your pathetic little life"

People who do not have a brain disorder are trying to help those who do have a brain disorder. You must be a very ignorant person if you take the word of wikipedia as fact. Also i do not appreciate your crude terminology of "brain disorder", autism is a neurological DIFFERENCE (meaning that their brain type is different to a typical brain type) that can sometimes be debilitating. The word disorder does not cover autism accurately because of the negative associations with this.

Anyway autistics are only classed as having a “brain disorder” because they deviate from social norms. If more people were autistic then it would be neuro-typicals that are seen as abnormal because the people that are qualified and making the judgements would see not being autistic as a brain disorder because its different from what is normal. Around 50 years ago in Russia anyone who disagreed with the state was classed as having a “brain disorder” and put in a mental institution. The people who were classifying them had the qualifications to do so, so does that might them right? You shouldn’t place so much trust in authoritive figures even if they have qualifications and definitions of mental disorders don't always mean a person has a brain problem.

Who are you to say your way of life is correct and everyone else is wrong?

The problem that I and many other individuals have is with Autism Speaks’s great emphasis on the problems that Autistics face and their like of ignoring any benefits that autistics have over non autistics. Which is so that people are more encouraged to donate. Which is wrong because it’s at the price of misconceptions about autistics that autistics then have to suffer with while trying to correct the wrong portrayal of them.

How do you know Amanda Baggs was normal before the age of 13. Do you think that everyone is normal before they are diagnosed then afterwards they then magicaly become autistic? You are not Amanda Baggs therefore you can not make those assumptions about her. Heres a fact for you- Autism is not always apparent before the age of 3, many typical autistic behaviours are also typical of non autistic children and so only when autistics become older it then becomes more obvious resulting in a diagnosis when that person is ABOVE the age of 3

Autistics are not lower class individuals for you to sneer at. Being told I should go get some help is very offensive. What have autistics ever done to you JohnBest? Why do you think you are better than an autistic person.

i've just been speaking to my dad whos also an aspie about autism speaks and how they fund research at Cambridge. He wants to sue them because Cambridge are in England and under European law we are protected against Autism Speaks because they are publically being negative about disabled people. I don't know how far this will actually go but its a nice bit of hope.
