cn grats.
I'm just guessing that Autism Speaks was annoyed due to a nick called "ntspeaks" joining their site on 12/28/07 and posting in forum there with the sig line of ntspeaks website url.
I doubt they actually thought they'd get $90,000 out of you.  This is clearly intimidation by example.  They probably figured that by strongarming you, they could set an example to discourage others from making parodies of them or otherwise speaking out against them.

They might have a valid case with copyrights, but for lost monetary support?  (So much for "Vote with your dollar.")  That's the general idea, right?  To reduce the influx of money and support to an already too-powerful organization.  If they truly felt threatened in that regard, I suppose that's a good sign.

One question I have:  Did they really use a hacker or did they just have someone lurk there?  (I'd be very surprised if they weren't lurking here, too.)

Even if you have to wait until you're an adult and financially independent to expose this, I think it needs to be done.

As they say... no guts, no glory.  (Kind of like confronting Moby Dick with the harpoon in one hand and the tartar sauce in the other.)

I agree with Flardox, the media should be more than sympathetic to you, as its you who has been wronged, and this is a stinker of a story, should it get out.

This story needs to get out...  you have my support 100% of the way if you need it...  Autism Speaks needs to be exposed for the damage they've done to our cause...  this could be a half-decent starting point.

Don't worry about what your boss thinks--things in the "pro-cure" arena are moving too quickly now to skip over possible opportunities.

This is almost too good to be true; we've been farked and receiving a lot of hits, this story may eventually hit the mainstream news.  Just the spark we need...

Welcome Fark guests!  It has been a great having so many visitors and supportive words. Which once again proves that not all NTs are evil Big Grin
I just figured I'd mention this to anyone interested.  I bought the domain "autismpride.com" a little while back with plans on making some form of a site to disprove Autism Speaks' myths and etc.  I still haven't gotten around to doing anything with it yet, so if anyone is interested I'll gladly transfer this domain over to anyone who wants it for free, granted that it will be used for the purpose of showing that Autism is not something to be ashamed of or hated.

Note:  This is the domain only, you'll have to come up with your own hosting server, but prices for rented server space are constantly dropping.

I guess many wants Autism Speaks' money to be used on biomedical research. I personally don't see anything wrong with that in contrast to development of prenetal tests. Some of you might not believe that biomed could be helpfull for autistic people, well, if there finally is some money into it we might finally find out with double-blind tests or whatever. If, lets say chelation, turns out to actually be helpfull for some autistic people, then that's great. If we find that it isn't, well then fewer parents have to spend money on something that turned out to be nothing.

I don't like how you've "slackened" your views on autism "cures" and treatments lately, erkolos.

I want the more familiar, more stringent erkolos back.

Me too. I'd like to see more money put into providing respite care, for instance.

Tigger, you make me laugh.
Thank you for being a role model for those of us (barely) younger than you.

It was probably another thread, but you (Tigger) wrote about your parents not considering you to be grown up, even though you are a grandparent, and that just resonated SO STRONGLY with me, not because of my parents per se, but because I have always described myself as being afflicted with "chronic youngestitis" as the youngest kid in my family.  You have reinforced my idea that autism is somewhat of a gift of youth, a fountain of youth if you will (or even if you won't!)
Go abscout!!
News about abscout: Kelly/abscout's parents kicked him off the computer for something about getting signatures for something. he has no Internet access at the moment, so he won't be able to reply to any of the threads. how do i know this? he called me and told me.
I have an idea that ASSN in QLD also has a jigsaw puzzle piece in its logo but guess Autism Speaks (shite) wouldn't like the one with the blue puzzle piece with poop under it (even though it's very funny).
