I'm glad to hear it.
I'll link to the new version of ntspeaks on my blog and forum. Smile
A person could use very similar graphics etc and just change a few details and put a small disclaimer on the bottom that it was a parody site.  Would that keep them out of trouble?
Thought I would take the WayBackMachine in my signature, but it's no fun if NT Speaks has been deleted from the archive.
I was a mod on the NT Speaks forum, dunno where abscout is.

I've been told abscout has been in contact with a journalist from new scientist recently, so I would presume that they are ok.

Sounds good.

LOL, my Mom told me a couple of years ago that she was impressed at how competent I seemed (I was 55!). My parents, I think, despaired of my ever growing up.  I like the "fountain of youthfulnes" idea....or maybe the "ageless" idea even better.  Seriously, I want to relate to people as people irrespective of their age.
Cool!

of course not I just can't understand how the Chairperson of AutismSpeaks sleeps at night???

I'm sure it's all thanks to her non autistic daughter, or so she'd tell you Wink

Sorry, just had to be said xD

Does anyone else or any other organisation use a jigsaw symbol for autism related stuff?

I vaguely recalled seeing some merchandise on one of those websites like Cafe Press or whatever it's called with jigsaw symbols...

That kind of thing is relevant in cases like Autism Speaks correspondence with Abscout.

Autism Speaks argument is that Abscout was using their logo or such an approximation of their logo as to cause confusion.

Legally speaking, Autism Speaks would only be able to use such an argument successfully if they could prove that they were fiercely protective of their logo and related intellectual property rights.

If it could be proven that jigsaw device or a similar logo was widely used in the autistic community and by independent organisations or individuals, and that Autism Speaks had not made similar approaches (or, basically, let's stop mincing around, threats) against all other individuals and arguments using jigsaw devices then their argument against Abscout would fail.

And what about Autism Speaks being an American organisation - don't they have a constitutional right to freedom of speech over there?

And in any event, I'm sure legalistically speaking there are arguments involving fair use in relation to parody...

I soooooooooooooooooooo wish I had the time to look into this from a legal perspective.  I'm sure Autism Speaks are totally in the wrong, and that Abscout's folks folded unnecessarily in the face of what is, basically, the bullying of an autistic minor.

Disgraceful actions on the part of an organisation purporting to work for autistics.

I have been documenting the fecal matter that has been flying on the Autism Speaks forums on my website, its at http://www.thezach.net/about/aspergers/aspeak/forum

They tried turning it into an attack on Amanda Baggs, tried saying people with Autism can't make decisions becuase our heads our full of mercury.  These people are upsetting me.

Good arguments.

He said he knows better than anyone else and that God would be disappointed at you for disagreeing with him?

So does he have a hotline to the heavens or something?

Terribly presumptious, one might even say delusional of him to presume to know what God would or wouldn't find disappointing.  Astonishing.

I thought John Best opposed Autism Speaks, at least he makes the forum look like something very not serious.
Good to see you again abscout!
