I never thought the WP'ers were mean, exactly, and when they were, I chalked it up to undue stress. Mostly, I just thought the threads were lame- here there's more of a chance for meaningful discussion that doesn't devolve into random gush. It IS a tad more conservative here, but that just gives a fire-breathing lefty like me more opportunity to sharpen my arguments. Bring it on!

As much as I like AFF, I often feel like I am too stupid to contribute to some topics and I'm scared I'll embarrass myself.
Aliengirl, what would help you most here? What could any of us do here to make it easier for you - any ideas? I enjoy reading your posts and I do think you have a lot to add to things. I'm also sad that you were attacked on WP.

I've got a friend with learning difficulties, he can't read or write, but he's one of the nicest, kindest people I know. He was bullied so much (by local yobs) that he had to move house. He summed it up when he said "They said I was stupid, but I reckon they're the stupid ones cos they've got nothing better to do than pick on people cos they're different".

If you want my 2 pence re your WP post, I thought it was articulate and well reasoned: you highlighted a segment of the article that you disagreed with and explained why
you did. Not for anything else. If anything, the response you got was childish and incoherent, without actually stating why they disagreed with you. I would have given far more kudos to your comment, not the reply you got.
You find that people who resort to swearing and name-calling are the ones that have lost the argument. Its the internet equivalent of raising your shoulders to make yourself look bigger in face to face confrontation
I think WP is cool, just watch out when alex forgets to take his meds, you dont want to disagree with his oppinion then.

No, I think after watching his behavior on the forums he does it for two reasons.
- He attempts to shut up someone who disagrees with him, it hurts his public image and he wont be able to jack off with the president anymore
- He needs to stroke his ego

Why are people mean and why did he use bad language to me?
Some people have an uncurable mental disease, called NT.
It causes them to be sometimes extremly unlogic and enjoy to use words like "suffering from" for all all kinds of other words, like "have" or "be" or what ever.
Just be a little generous, and try not try to teach them.
Let them chat with people of their kind, and they are happy.
There is no cure for it, and they will never understand, how serious their condition is, not how to use certain words properly.
Just stay away from them.

As for wrongplanet, don't take it to heart, I joined WP the other day, made a brief introductory post, under a different name (tsathoggua) in case of any partisan bullshit arising, posted one or two other posts, went out to the shop, and got promptly banned, with no explanation.

The peeps from zOMG weren't the first to revolt from WP. I remember there was a mass revolt of long time regulars in about march 2006 (long story, lotsa mass bannings and more people got banned for talking about the bannings, blah blah). Most went to I.2 and this place: On The Spectrum, which is dead and rotting in the sun nowdays.

When I was first looking for some support I first went on Wrong Planet, took one look at the threads and saw that it wasn't really necessarily a nice place. I'm glad I found AFF and all the nice people like MissNewZealand, Micgrace, Quick_Duck and many others. Anyway, I can sort of relate to this as on the other forum that I used to go on (not anymore) there seemed to be people who were mean and said hurtful comments but never got banned. When I was on that other forum, the problem began for me when I took things the wrong way and not necessarily what they had origianlly meant that caused further strife. I wasn't banned but I felt that observing some of the people on there that the moderators were playing 'favourites', ignoring what some said and acting when people who they did not like or did not want on the forum were banned, over small reasons. I guess, the moderators let the power of running a forum get to their heads. Perhaps that is what is happening to Wrong Planet now?

It is much easier to meet and come to know people here. We don't seem to have the bad sort of Aspies any more. We do have the overzealous individual or individuals that think if you are a threat to their social category, they will viciously attack, and it takes a while to make peace. Maybe the world needs that kind of protection. Maybe we need some zealots.
Hopefully we can all get on together now.
