I'm a student at Strathclyde Uni trying to set up a society within our union for those on the spectrum. If you're interested then please either respond here or PM me.

Even if you're not at Strathy, it would be nice to hear from other Scottish Aspies... as Glasgow feels like the worst place to live when you hate people sometimes!!!! Wink
I am in Aberdeen. There is an Aspergers Support Group here and the National Autistics Society have an office here.

I rather feel that the professionals who specialise in 'dealing' with Autism would prefer us to refer ourselves to them, rather than each other.

Your thoughts?
Hi Sat,

Sorry I just saw that message there... oddly enough it was googling 'Aspergers support group Glasgow' that referred me back to my own post here! Oh well Rolleyes

There is NOTHING in Glasgow that I can find on support groups. I have my diagnosis appointment on Fri with the Glasgow Autism Resource Centre and I'm pretty sure that they'll tell me there's some random counselling group in the avenue of the back of beyond, 25:00hrs sharp, every tenth Thursday...

I've just found a bit of resistance from people that I talk to - I don't think that many people here know that much about autism and certainly even less about Aspergers. Luckily I've got my society at the uni and I'm going to Glasgow and Caledonian on Monday with a lot of statistics to show universities that we're massively under-represented here and need support from other Aspies/auties in order to embrace who we are and not be ashamed to be ourselves. And in my eyes the only way we can kick up some movement in Glasgow (at least - I'd like to see it go Scotland-wide) is to start with the universities (as cynical as it sounds I find students here love anything slightly liberal) and expand out that way. Its not quite a two fingers to the National Autistic Society, but a definite swing towards the notion of us as a minority group who, to paraphrase Tony Attwood, are 'different, not defective'. I know I for one don't want to be taught how to be NT, but to get support/to learn how to deal with the NT world. I don't think the National Autistic Society et al really grasp that idea from what I've seen.

Thats what I want this society I'm setting up to be about... somewhere for auties and Aspies to come to, to be themselves, to counsel each other and help each other to deal with the NT world.
Sending you a PM Marcia Smile
Welcome Katie! Thats enough for a coven, right?
I sneaked a photo of the first Glasgow AFF meeting...

LMAO! I am actually too drunk to post... I've been in the pub since 5pm... but woo! Long story but it involves a friend going back to the merchant navy... woo! Tongue Welcome to Scots Aspies...we are small but still a strong voice!
I live a few hours away but am up for a meeting. Smile

Have to say though " I'm English..but I can't help it." Tongue
WfM.. I owe you a phone call as well as a coffee... let me know when you're next fancying a journey through as I'd totally appreciate meeting you...
the latter I've had a few of tonight... i'm eating my chips n cheese whilst wrecked...
I've never had a deep fried mars bar...although I've seen deep fried pizza yuck! Korrigan... chips n cheese really tastes like a baked potato with cheese and vinegar!
I know someone who had a deep fried mars bar - he didn't have a heart attack but puked within 20 mins...
OK ladies, you can have your cauldron back - and I couldn't eat all the deep-fried mars bars, so there are plenty left for everyone else. Wink

I reckon that Glasgow take-aways are so used to drunks that they wouldn't understand the order if it came from someone sober! Wink
Ooooh!! I haven't had a doner since I gave up taxi driving. The van parked in the bus stop in Wadhurst was the only place to eat at 1am!

I can still remember the flavour, and the last one was nine years ago!
