Lucie1, I originally thought December 31 New Zealand time (as of 7:04 PM December 31 East Coast time).

Then I remembered the movie Y2K (1999 thriller, and the International Date Line was first, moving west, so the USA was saved almost for last, Times Square lights going out and on.... it is Happy New Year Jan. 1 2008 for you.  But not for the USA yet.  Besides http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=22 said so.
