Well I got my report back- I did terribly.
I thought that going to a selective school would fix it for me. How wrong I was. Apparently it is for the gifted, but to me it just seems to be for the average kids who work hard. I respect them, but school is designed for the average kid. The average kid who works hard had it made from the beginning. For a gifted kid, well that's different. Wouldn't you think we'd be learning at our own pace and so on? Well we don't. We learn at the same rate as other kids. We are just expected to do more work and perform better.
I am NOT a hard worker. I try to be but I am totally disorganised and unmotivated.
Well I told my mother that next year I want to do well because year 9 actually counts for something at least. I told her that I wanted her to send me to my room every afternoon and check that I had revised and done my homework. This was because last year all I got was a ban from the internet and a lecture. I will admit, I WAS trying to get out of it, but not because I wanted to weasel out of punishment; it was because I knew that it wouldn't help. All it would do is worsen our relationship and make me LESS motivated.
Anyway, she responded with "NO!"
.. what?
Apparently she had tried to make me work but I refused. After trying to recall, I now have a memory of her coming into my computer room and nagging me to do it. "Do your homework tonight! Do it! Listen to me, are you listening? Do your homework tonight!"
Of course, I didn't. I tried to explain why I didn't but I was interrupted.
"You're old enough to organise yourself!"
She might be a good mother but she certainly doesn't know how to raise a child with ADHD.
