As a NT I can honestly say I really had no clue about autism or aspergers until I met my bf. My views were formed from such campaigns and that is frightening. There definitely needs to be some more positive and realistic information out there in front of the general public, so such assumptions are formed. I know I have learned so much lately and it has totally changed what I knew and thought before.....
Well... I'm new to this site and I just got diagnosed with AS a week ago after years of wondering what was supposedly 'wrong' with me. As if the world wasn't scary enough to me at times.... and then I see things like that picture and everything just seems a whole lot worse. I'm not even 'out' to everyone yet and I wonder how people will react, especially if these images are in society. At the same time I feel lucky because I live in the UK and they'd never allow some ransom note advert like that (I think) because everybody wants to be politically correct.
Thanks for the welcome Midnight Owl and Tigger_the_Wing!!!
I'm glad to know there is a community of supportive people out there...
it's just disturbing that the people who are meant to be so knowledgable and doing research etc. (e.g. NYU) are the ones making the problems.
I agree, its pretty **** derogatory. But Ive seen this bullshit before and I will not allow
the kind of people who produced it to get me all worked up over it.
