As we've previously discussed, I agree that the capitalist model is the best (known) one.

I will assume that by "Socialism" you mean a country where the elected state makes decisions on how the economy and society should be run.
Why would I want to be directed by a bunch of politicans, who are, to a large extent, pathological liars? Politicans get elected by appealing to the lowest common factor. As an aspie, do I want my life directed by a bunch of pathological liars who get in power by superficial appeal?

Lucie is right…a balance needs to be struck. I know there’s not real alternative to capitalism…I just can’t bring myself to sing its praises LOL

I tend to believe the problems with both capitalism and socialism are more due to general human idiocy and apathy than due to flaws with the systems themselves...
If people looked into the ramifications of their actions, then unethical businesses wouldn't thrive, and politicians would need to address real issues - the problems with all political systems is people.

I've considered combining the Capitalist Economic system with a Authoritarian Political system, but I dunno ;p
It's all academic of course, some could argue that my above proposition is probably what USA practices this century lol.

I haven't read all of the posts, but my question is how does a truth-loving Aspie deal with all of the lies required by advertising and marketing? I took a marketing class in college and it turned my stomach. And how does a justice-loving Aspie deal with the horrors of economics, where it is cheaper to pay off families of dead victims than to redesign a faulty product? (Ford Pinto for example, from the 1970s)
I wondered about that myself.
No answer to this, Ian? Here's your chance to convert the heathens! (joke)

To all you free market capitalists, I have two words: Great Depression.
That's why a pure capitalist market doesn't work. Some degree of mixed economy is desirable.

What do you mean by manipulated event?
My point is that to fix the mess it made, a less free market was necessary.

I mean, it happened because it was not free enough... it was manipulated by the Fed. They gave out lots of extra loans to banks and flooded the market, then cut the money supply... There were some nasty types behind it at the time who were deeply involved in the stock market. It is the ultimate in insider trading. They bought whole companies for pennies on the dollar.

There's still widespread disagreement about what exactly caused it. There's no doubt that the invisible hand wouldn't have fixed it, had it been left to its own devices, at least not until much later, though.

What are you talking about? I repeat, there's no consensus on the exact causes, but it sure as hell can't be reduced to "the currency manipulation".

Maybe I'll check it out, but this is code red on my conspiracy theory-meter, so I'm not sure it's worth it.
