Hmm...is any of this sounding eerily familiar? Substitute "oil" for "Mako", and U.S. and/or any oil-rich third world nation for Midgar... Maybe instead of "Shinra", try "Halliburton" or "British Petroleum" or any giant oil company, really."
I'm not bothered, naturally ;] but it's an interesting idea.
