what breeed is your dog?
what are snakes like to look after?
i know some one who has rats loves them to bits he does!
My dog is a Golden Retriever. He is quite large, however, about 115 pounds (and he's not overweight). Despite his size, he is the lowest-ranking dog on our street and is afraid of our neighbor's chihuahuas.
Most snakes are very easy to care for... They aren't noisy, dirty, or destructive, and most adult snakes only need to be fed every week or so (a lot of baby snakes need to eat more often). Unlike other reptiles like lizards and turtles, they don't need and should not be fed live food, which makes feeding them very easy (you can stock up on a bunch of frozen mice and just keep them in the freezer). They also don't need UV radiation like invertebrate-eating reptiles do.
The main thing with snakes is to just make sure you get the temperatures and humidity right, which isn't hard. They are the best starter reptiles for the majority of people, due to their general ease of care and docile nature - contrary to what many people believe, lizards are usually much, much more aggressive/defensive than most snakes.

Yes, they have wonderful temperaments, so quiet and gentle. Hardly bark much either and like you said, they are COMPLETE couch potatoes! They are beautiful elegant creatures yet thousands are so badly abused.

I've had horses, dogs, cats, mice, fish, birds, lizards, rooster, squirrel, coon, rabbit, crustaceans and insect "farms".
At one time I had 23 dogs. Obviously dogs were my special interest :-). I memorized dog books, magazines and veterinary textbooks back then to learn all I could on the finer points of breeding, training and caring for dogs and I became active in a dog showing club. Found out it was nearly impossible to make a living from it though, unless one cuts corners. Cutting corners wouldn't have been ethical.

How did you manage that without having it get...unhygienic?
We have one dog, and that is enough.
I've got a hamser (well, my brother has got one) and we've got a pond full of goldfish.
My favourite animal is a dolphin.

It was probably more hygienic than having a house with several children.
These were toy sized dogs and only 6 were adult. I had a large kennel building for them with an outdoor run that I cleaned regularly but they preferred being in the house with me. Everyone had a sleeping crate and got exercised outside. My life pretty much revolved around feeding, grooming, walking, training and playing with them or reading about them or talking about them.

i saw the video and i was shocked
sorry had to delete the link though i didn't think i should repost it
all animals don't deserve cruelty whatever they are
and by the way simen about the dogs i imagine it wasn't too unhygenic dogs can be very clean animals! it's just a same that we don't consider licking our bits as hygenic as they do

I LOVE octopi (octopuses? I know there's some debate about that). Definitely my favorite.
