i saw on the tv this morning when they were shwoing the newspaper headlines one of the papers said that the cloning of babies has been granted but they will clone them in a different way.

i am slightly worried about this could it get rid of autism?
no,it simply means they will attempt to make a genetic doppleganger of an existing lifeform-in this case,a human.

so,they will (discounting enviromental factors) look identical, have the same fingerprints,DNA,eyes, etc etc etc.

contrary to popular Sci-Fi,they will not have the same memory (discounting genetic memory),personality or ideology.

yes but apparently they are doing this to get rid of genetic diseases if they accomplish this whats to stop them moving onto other genetic things like autism and adhd

hm...technically possible...

link please?

at any rate,it is still a...touchy subject.

and i doubt they will go to the costs and difficulty of actually Cloning an autistic individual to attempt to remove the genes...because they then have to replace those genes.

not easy.i doubt its even (currently) possible, unless they can somehow retard the clones embryonic growth at the stage of still being a very few cells and change the DNA then.

easier,by far,to do it before conception, with the gametes.

i am still trying to find the newspaper which had it but no luck yet Sad

I can't really see how this would have anything to do with autism. Cloning and genetic engineering are very different.

well by cloning this baby they would learn more about genetic engineering which would probably make them able to remove the autism gene

Your comparing apple to oranges. Scientist can easly genetically engineer things today, the reason they don't do it for autism is that they don't know the location of the genes; Making a clone won't help them find the genes.

ok then sorry if i overreacted Smile

i just thought that if they were to clone a autistic kid they could find out the location of the genes sorry again Smile

I think the purpose of the cloning was to clone specific types of cells that could be used for treatment of certain diseases.  -- not to clone whole humans.
I would be happy to have a clone.
We would be friends and go to the movies and restaurants.
Yes, there's always that aspect. It would really help those of us who feel lonely much of the time.
