Earlier today, I decided to stop in Frankston to get some material (I'm a talented dressmaker), minding my own business when all of a sudden this car full of idiots drove by calling me "***", saying "duhhhh" and waving their arms in a "spastic" way. These weren't a group of silly children, they were grown adults.

It's easily understandable when kids insult others to get a reaction, but why do otherwise mature young adults do it? It's often said that people fear what they do not understand, and one thing they don't understand is people with disabilities. Perhaps they laugh at and call us names to alleviate the fear they have. They are afraid, so when confronted with the situation, they resort to making light entertainment out of it.

I admit that sometimes in public I pretend that I have Down Syndrome or cerebral palsy and make noises, to alleviate the "loser" factor that I carry.

i know how you feel i had a similar experience a little while ago these people aren't worht your time as ive been told they can only use one of their very few brain cells to insult you. and to be honest if you did have cerebal plasy you wouldn't be walking about in town which shows how stupid they are because they didn't think of that before they said this comment!

They were grown.  They were not adults. Not unlike stepping in dog poop on your way to the store ....  give them no more attention than that; unfortunate and unpleasant, but actually irrelevant.

I can think of a way to eliminate their testosterone entirely but it might hurt.  But if they act like dogs, and it works on dogs, who knows?

i can tell you i felt like doing that to the idiots that called me a "spaz" a little while ago!

but yeah these people are too stupid too waste time and energy on leave them to say their dumb comments after all you know your far more intelligent them.

^^ spot on. =]

I've been treated similarly, i catch a bus to and from school each day, cos we live a fair way out.  there was this one kid who constantly sat there, poked me and called me 'autistic girl'.  This was before I was even officially diagnosed.
Some people seriously need to get a hobby...

how did you deal with this guy? if that happened to me every id just well .....................KABOOM! Tongue

While those people were no doubt immature, this also strikes me as, well, immature.

We do know the reason, and I think it's a bad reason and a bad excuse to act up.

What is your problem?

Some people here (and I don't mean anyone in particular, just a general feeling) feel that we should not be allowed to be critical of one another. Ironically, they're highly critical of people who are critical.

I use and have used a lot of forums, and this is the only one where a substantial part of the memberbase cannot take criticism. They constantly turn the tables by attacking the messenger, not the message.

I am not a troll, much less a constant troll, and I don't think you'd say that if you had seen many online trolls.

Of course none of us are perfect, so it makes no sense to pretend that we are. Of course we all make mistakes. That does not amount to saying that we should never point out mistakes, or learn from them.

This thread is called "Society is immature". That is an attack on the entire society, but it doesn't raise an eyebrow. Me, on the other hand, expressing my personal opinion that, by the poster's own account, s/he is also immature, is the end of the world. Where's the logic in that?

If you disagree with my message, please say so and explain why. If not, please stop making yourself look stupid by attacking the messenger.

fine i will explain you have made constant critical remarks towards quite a few members here yes what the author does isn't the best thing to do but sometimes people do these things because they feel insecure.

i apologise because i did  go over the top but it is extremely frustrating to see on every thread someone acting like a troll people keep responding to your comments in a negative way because you make critical remarks that aren't in any way good its not we can't take crtisism it you who keep giving out harsh critisism.

What are these constant critical remarks?

Yeah, maybe adults who do such stuff are insecure. I would call adults crying and screaming to get their will immature too, even if they did so because they felt insecure. Wouldn't you?

If the critical remarks are true, then they certainly have one good thing about them.

I keep stating my opinion, as do others on this forum, but apparently it's not politically correct here to be critical. Whatever, I wouldn't want to be here if I wasn't allowed to be critical. I'm not being mean, I don't do personal attacks, I respond to case (e.g., I don't say, "Ah bah, you're a meanie immature little brat!", I say, "I think that reaction is immature") and not person, and so on.

people,people....please,place the flamethrowers on the floor....step out of the fire-retardent suits....

5 minute rule-before making an aggressive post,go away for 5 minutes, and see if you feel the same the second time you read it.

and actually, compared to some forums i have seen, the memberbase here tends to be a bit more mature (cough*facepunch*cough)

It's my opinion that this kind of post only make matters worse. While I wasn't angry beofre, my knee-jerk reaction to this is "*** it, I was being critical but civil, but now, let's get the flamethrowers out RAWR RAWR!"

I won't, of course, but really, you can't go about trying to dictate people's opinions. I assume those running this board will allow opinions that are controversial but civil to remain here, so I suggest you don't put oil on the fire with this.

Really, I want the right to be something more than a mindless sheep. Not saying anyone here is, but they could easily become so if no one was allowed to be critical.

S/he explicitly stated the reason, so yes, I think we do know why.

If you're going to doubt this person, you may as well doubt that they do that at all.

This is the reason given, and it's the reason I accept. If this is only a rationalization, then I would find it even more immature.
Well, I haven't been. If you look at the post that sparked it all, it was simply, "this strikes me as, well, immature". I stand by it, and I don't think it amounts to condemnation. Almost everyone I know acts less maturely than their age would suggest sometimes.
