You could be right about that...they do (on the whole) seem to be more interested in ‘exploring issues’ than ‘having a laugh’. Interesting…because traditionally its us British people who are supposed to be more reserved (stiff upper lip chaps etc).
I think possibly we’re in danger of over-generalising here; and lapsing into cultural stereotypes.
I think maybe by starting a thread on this subject I’ve over-emphasised what is really quite a minor issue.
I think all British people tend to lapse into cultural stereotypes.
*grins* Couldn't help myself...
Ah so you don't like the UK then? :p
I think you're trying to be funny here, but regardless, the politics of the UK seem to be closer to the Socialist viewpoint that the American and therefore further from the "totalitarian, supremisist" cultures I'm refering to.
One People, One Nation... :p
Gag.....I absolutely do not believe in the multiculturalist viewpoint, that is to say "all cultures and religeons are equaly capable of producing <name your favorite outrage>". This is patently untrue and absolutely not supported by historical evidence. ie the NAZI doctrine specificaly supported global domination and genocide, while other cultures commited despicable acts despite it's established doctrines.
*grins* Couldn't help myself...
Fair point...I think perhaps I may have.
Oops! I actually only meant this as a joke - in that the statement's a self-referencing one. It's like when someone is talking about hearing problems, and you say "Sorry, what was that?", and repeat as needed.
I think it's probably a fair enough thing to say that different cultures have different ways of talking about specific things. It's one of the reasons an Australian should never talk about thongs on the internet. (For the non-Aust among us, thongs are a type of simple footwear here...)
