There is a new young doctor called Toby in this drama who is an exceptional actor since he manages to play an Aspie in a completely believable fashion.

I suspect that the writers know all about Asperger's and have devised his character accordingly.

They should use this insight for our benefit and mention support groups at the end of the programme.
I must agree!  Hopefully, they will see us as people of heaven.
I thought I'd give that a watch, but for some reason there are no ondemand programmes on my cable box today.  Not a big fan of casualty, except for there christmas specials which are usually really good, it ain't no ER which I love.

Shamshir, just exactly what do you mean by "people of heaven"?
Smile

I said that because I hope aspies would be portrayed better.
Damn - I almost always watch Casualty but missed it this week because we were away for the weekend. How do we know the character os Aspie - has it actually been mentioned in the dialogue?

I was wondering that, is this another one of yoour lots speculation based a social awkward chararter like Doc Martin.  That said I can see it with this Toby guy bless him what a lovely character.  I did finally get to watch it at 1.00 am this morning when Virgin sorted there problems.  I liked how at the end his senior told him he was naive, lacked self-esteem and common sense (mmm had that pointed at me a few times at work) but he make a good doctor.  Also when he did not want to give a family member the news of a dead relative it seemed that the head nurse woman seemed to know he had difficulties?  I have not watched the whole series, just this one after seeing that post.  Second question it seems that all different doctors in TV series are suggested of being autistic lol? Mmm House? Doc Martin? If you include House you could include Becker? Not to forget that red head doctor in ER, think Pratt suggested that in one episode.

On another thought my doctor totally lacks a bed side manner, he quite awkward and seems incapable of understanding me maybe he has asperger's? mmm?
I imagine the medical profession would in some ways appeal to some aspies - lots of academic knowledge required (would be great if a "special interest" was the human body). and a strong sense of moral purpose - helping people with illness/make them better.
come on casualty fans, so is Toby officially an autie/aspie? On a slightly different note my doctor said today I have a sense of humour so therefore if I am autistic its only mild aparently we don't have a sense of homour mmm (by the way I am autistic she missed the diagnosis bit)

That's rubbish. Of course you can have a sense of humour, it just might not be as simplistic as some people's. I usually manage to get my doctor in stiches just before he doles out my anti-depressants. Now that's what I call comic irony!

As for Casualty's Toby... I looked on the Casualty Home Page at lunchtime and there was no mention of ASD in Toby's character profile.

That is exactly what I said, I hate it when people refer to me as mild as everything is relative.  Damn doctors and there stereotypes, isn't generilising an NT trait? Lol you sound like me when I am getting my anti-depressants (I think with me its a front, not deliberate but can often be a self-defense thing).  I have a sense of humour, I am not sure I often get others people's.  Anyway off topic and some there, I googled to see, I see no reference to Toby being Autistic other than here, was there intention in the character to just be a nervous young med student quite out of his depth?  Though I see there are a lot traits in the character.  This has got me intrigued more so than Doc Martin.
