as far as i am aware...the time gap is random,or it decreases the more posts you make.

the avatar thing is a really annoying bug that some people get,PM a mod or an admin to get it "forced"
Yeah I noticed a 20 post per day limit recently, and I'm no spamming postwhoring NT troublemaker Big Grin

And a Huge wait, pain in the arse, as I tend to type pretty fast.

the 20 post limit has been ( i think..) set up to 40.

and for those who can touchtype, and do it very well, the limit is extremely restrictive:perhaps removing the cool-down on a case by case basis?

incidentally,it was 90 seconds between posts then, mesa thinks.

weeell....we do have an IRC channel if you want a quickfire debate..

click the "chatroom" link at the top,or,if you use something like Chatzilla, point it at..

irc.chatautism.com/aff

OS: Win XP
Browser is Mozilla
Java is Sun

It might be my uni internet connection, though WP chat seems to work fine with the lightweight client.

hm..i'll assume the WP chat is Java based,so your uni proxy isnt blocking it...
have you tried using Chatzilla?
or indeed, firing up(shudder) IE to see if its FF not working?

I have this exact same experience - would it be possible for AFF to have a lightweight client option?

Or is there a website that is a lightweight client that people can use to access any chat, even if Java and irc won't work on their computers? (because they are on a work or uni computer or whatever)

again, what OS are you using, what browser, and which distro of Java?

i will just take this chance to mention that  my new,Vista based machine, will not work with the AFF chatroom either.

Vista
Firefox/Chatzilla (neither work ¬_¬)
Sun Java/Microsoft Java (tried both)
Have you tried an IRC client like Trillian (just the one I happen to use)? If you get Trillian I might help you getting the rest figured out if you don't manage it  on yourself.
At uni IRC is probably firewalled off. The "lightweight option" is probably HTML/JavaScript/PHP based and therefore does not connect directly. For multiple reasons I would prefer not to setup what is essentially a big anonymous proxy.

The reason for this is to deter spammers (we've had MASSIVE problems with spammers and trolls) and make things less fun for them.

Perhaps a mechanism which relaxed the limits for established posters with more than a set number of posts (trolls could be kicked back under their bridge long before said limit of posts would be reached, ideally)
Then after post count reached set number, the limit could be relaxed slightly.

Hmm, how about more mods as opposed to these restrictions. I know that these restrictions seemed to have put off people who geniuinely want to post here.

Darn right! I also am a bit miffed that we were given no warning this was going to happen. A 30 post per day limit seems more reasonable.
