Autisitic Hiker Found Alive in W.Va.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. —
An autistic hiker lost for four days has been found alive and reunited with his family, a spokesman for the search effort said Thursday afternoon.

The spokesman, Chris Stadelman, provided no details on Jacob Allen's condition or how the 18-year-old was found. A news conference was planned for Thursday evening.

Allen wandered away from his parents Sunday afternoon in the Monongahela National Forest. Hundreds of volunteers and trained professionals had been combing the woods, calling for him to come to them for candy bars, ice cream and other food.

Allen had no food or water with him, but Stadelman had said there were natural water sources in the search area, which consists of about 10 square miles of often steep and brush-covered terrain.

Overnight temperatures dropped to as low as 38 degrees on the nights Allen was missing. He was wearing hiking boots, a long-sleeved T-shirt, a wind jacket and wind pants.
That is wonderful news, thanks for posting it! Smile
Yay! Sensible way to get him to trust them, too; must've been crazy hungry after all that time.
Wow. I had heard he was missing. I'm glad he's okay!
Score one for us!
I saw this on the Today Show this morning. He was found by some random search and rescue guy who called his name. Jacob was lying on the dirt sleeping, and he woke up and turned over in response to his name being called. He needed no bribing of ice cream or anything, Jacob new that the guy meant help.

Yay!!!! I was stressing if he was OK. After day two I figured he must be done for.
What I hated though, was how Fox News Channel kept on refering to him as being an "autistic boy". I mean he's 18 years old, for crying out loud! Whould they have used the word boy if he wasn't autistic?
Probably not.  Although we can you expect from FOX News.  There pretty backwards when it comes to about everything

Considering we're talking about Fox News, probably not.

They generally use "youth" for that if you're neurotypical. Especially if you're in a gang or something. Smile
