I may be critisised for this but I believe that there shouldbe "an eye for an eye".  No matter what age the killer, this includes the two litttle *ahem* persons!! who murdered Jamie Bulger.  At teh age of 18 the were released from prison with false identities.  What evidence is there that these two will not kill again??  They knew what they were doing and that it was wrong.

Sorry folks but thats my feelings. :-(
If you believe in capital punishment, how are you any better than a murderer?   I know if something happened to a loved one, I'd want revenge, but it's not the right way to go.  This is why wars last for so long that no one remembers what they are fighting for.  At one point, both sides have to stop killing each other regardless of what atrocities the other side has committed.

I don't understand this "eye for an eye" thing.  Everything in my being tells me that's true evil.

I was just then about to say that!

What is executing someone going to solve?  In my opinion, it will just create more hatred.  In situations like this, it is necessary to break the cycle of violence and hatred.

My belief is that it is always wrong to kill someone, unless it is absolutely necessary to do so in order to save the lives of many more people (utilitarian philosophy).

If someone is a danger to society, they should be kept in prison for the rest of their lives.  But there is no need to kill them!

Well, without a death penalty, I assume that's probably the only alternative.  In this case, I would say that justice was served.

It all depends.  In some cases, someone who has murdered does actually have a chance to rehabilitate.  Its the sociopaths you have to watch out for.  they absolutely DO NOT change.  they do not respond to treatment of any sort.  these are the ones who, if there were justice, would spend their lives locked up someplace very safe.  a sociopath might be sorry, might even try to stop themselves from killing, but it isnt possible.

note:  not all sociopaths kill.  but the ones that do are likely to do it again, and again, and again.
