A while back I was really into those shows... for the non-americans here Law and Order is a show where you watch a case as it goes through the various phases of the police and judicial systems.

I watched one again the other night and had a question... Do NTs "know" who the guilty person is? I was always intrigued when watching these kinda shows, or COPS for that matter, how they always know who the bad guy is.

Especially COPS... law and order at least has some foreshadowing. But the reactions people have are ones I would have in that situation if I was innocent. Which aslo makes me wonder/fear, "what would happen if I was a suspect in a crime I didn't comit?"

Paranoid, probably. But I know I react to situations differently than others.

If my hubby ended up murdered I'd think that a detective would question me... things I probably wouldn't be able to answer without much thought... "Where were you last night from 10-11 PM."  "Umm.. do you have a TV guide? What was I doing last night from 10-11?" Just being interrogated would probably give me a meltdown where I couldn't think straight even if it meant jailtime...

Or if I was raped and the guy said it was consentual... I would probably look "guilty" to the police...

I guess that's why I didn't go into law enforcement... and hopefully I'll stay out of the interrogation room. Smile

Any thoughts?
It's something I worry about too; at a low level: it doesn't keep me awake at night.
I know that if anything happened to anyone in my family everyone would immediately say "she did it". I'd display all of the guilty signs they look for: limited eye contact etc
Erich and I are addicted to Law & Order SVU, and our different approaches, I think, show a lot about the NT/Aspie difference.

Erich is much better than I am assembling clues and making logical assumptions, but often he will stop the show, back it up (we love Tivo) and say, "What did that mean? that look she had just now?"

So we're both pretty good at figuring things out, but we aren't always using the same process.
I used to watch LA-law as a kid.
i think it made me reflect a bit more on things than before...i remember when a loyer told someone that there is allways two sides in a situation...both must be considered to make a fear jugdement.
Max- SVU got too gross for me via young kids that I have... so I had to stop watching it. Smile

You all should know I'm not crazy paranoid about it... just enough to think about to keep me out of trouble. Wink
My mum can pretty much guess what's going to happen at the end of a show about 80% of the time.

It's very annoying.

(although I've never really been able to get into Law & Order myself.)
I think Twin Peaks well and truly ruined law and order shows for me. If a detective can't weave shamanic dream imagery techniques into their investigation process, they're just not trying... *grins*

Although that being said, I have a soft spot for NCIS. Probably because Abbey's such an Aspie...
I haven't watched Law & Order lately but like shows such as "New Detectives" and "Medical Detectives" because they show interesting forensic techniques and investigations and how criminals are apprehended when they thought they had committed the perfect crime.

L.A. Law used to annoy me somewhat because there was too much soppy stuff in the bedroom and not enough focus on the courtroom drama side of things. Then again, it was the 80's and that kind of thing was common in all sorts of shows ie; they always had to bring in a love interest story. Maybe it's my aspieness that made me just wish they would leave it out and cut to the serious story instead.

On SVU, I love the forensic medical expert. It makes me think, "Why does anyone even try to commit a crime? Don't they know there are methods of detection beyond their imagination?"

Sarah, you mention the paranoia factor. I'll admit after a weekend Special Victims Unit marathon one weekend, Erich and I were at a restaurant and about every third person who walked in the door looked to me like a potential serial killer. A couple would be sitting at a nearby table and I would think, "Why did he just look at her like that? Oh, my god -- he's going to murder her the minute they get home!"

That's the second time this week you've made me bust up laughing while sitting quietly, alone, in a room!

Other SVU-enhanced paranoias involve me glaring at anyone that tries to talk to my kids without my written and notarized permission. Smile
