So this summer I decided to go back to my art "roots" and start painting... an attempt to thwart my creative block... to no avail as I'm no more creative now than I was before.
Not to say my paintings weren't fun... it was nice to just focus on something and enjoy myself in a stress-free creative environment.
I've decided I'm going to do nine of these plant cropping squares in a grid as decoration in my house.
The whole shebang.
A detail
I really like painting a nice watercolor and removing the tape with a nice crisp edge... {sigh}
thats was quite lovely, much better than what i could paint

I'll keep you posted on the others.
I don't mean to come across as an art-snob... but for me there's a real disconnect between being creative and being technical. Paintings like these are very technical for me, more like paint by number... but after a few days I am beginning to think that it is doing more for me creatively than I had originally thought.
I have a new design job so we'll see if I manage to do something good...
Those are gorgeous! Mum had some plants like those in her garden, only the colours were reversed. I forget what they were called, but they come in several varieties, some with green and purple too.
Brilliant work Sarah--you’ve got quite a talent.
The leaf images have a wonderful purity to them--a sort of Zen feel; like finding oneself amidst a beautiful rainforest.

quickduck, what compliments!!!
Thank you!
Thanks!

Someday I'll get to start on number 2... but for right now, more pressing needs await me... like making money.

I could just see these designs looking really good on soft furnishings and curtains. I wonder if there were any way to sell them to somebody who could use them for interior decorating fabrics. The designs would also look effective on feature tiles in a kitchen or bathroom, interpersed with white, cream, or pale green or pink tiles.
Those leaves are so pretty. I also like the curves in them.
In another life, I might have become an interior decorator. Only thing is, I would struggle to do things just because they were fashionable at the time, if I didn't like the colours or patterns myself. These paintings certainly rival many patterns I have seen on curtains and soft furnishings and fabric bolts. They are obviously done with care and thought.
I was surprised to see this thread at the top of the list again. Thank you all.
I will eventually do some more. As for now I'm too busy fighting the two months out of the year that I'm actually busy with my design work... but I'll keep you all posted. You know, since I have fans and all.

Oh, you have fans!
I don't know why I don't visit this Art forum more often, those are really beautiful.
I believe that true skill in art lies not only in those things you put in, but also in knowing what to leave out.
Your use of space to emphasise shape is extraordinary. You must be a very talented designer.

Any more fans and you'll have to start your own fan-club Sarah!
Wow, when I first saw this thread I was on my work computer, which didn't actually show the pictures, so I was trying to imagine them from the descriptions. They're really beautiful. I love photo-realistic art. And I would never have thought of them as fabric design, but CJ's right.
