Only thing is, was it true that Mr Rudd was involved in sacking a lot of QLD public servants when he was in the Wayne Goss state government? Mind you, from what I've seen of him, he seems like a nice enough chap.

Yep - and more recently he's been moving the labor party to a more conservative stance, by moving away from workers rights issues, and "christianising" many policies.

He's still better than the liberals, but the margin between them is getting smaller.

I think some aspects of it will go, Tenacious. The most important thing to do is to close loopholes. Make the window dressing that the government calls the "fairness test" (which is a procedure only right now) law. Minimum entitlements should also be penned back in and can not be removed - ie penalties, holiday loading etc etc. The stupid thing is that business is actually shooting themselves in the foot with that, because it only helps them if the worker is at work. If they're sick, that sort of salary sacrifice costs them MORE!

And incidentally - how did Townsville lose it's railway station? Gold Coast aside it's the second largest city in Queensland!!

We're getting away from the subject here!

Ayr and Home Hill got to keep their stations and their population was around about the same size as Bowen's. I think Bowen had a liberal local council at the time and that could have had some bearing on the decision to axe the station.

Maybe, but I think the main reason is because the train had to loop around to get into Bowen, and they wanted to take the loop out to save time. No such issue with Ayr or Home Hill (I don't think the Sunlander stops at Home Hill off the top of my head). In fact - unless they've changed it - I think there's a loop in Townsville as well. But of course being as big as it is and the changeover point for the Mount Isa services they couldn't very well shut that station down!

Yeah, I heard about how a lot of Victorian towns got "Kennetized" a few years ago. Australia must be one of the most urbanised countries in the world. If somebody wanted to attack us, they'd just need to knock out the capital cities and a few of the larger regional cities and we would be in major strife!

Don't start me on that one! I could for about two hours at least on that subject!

I had a Premier Coachlines timetable somewhere but I think it just had Brisbane to Cairns. I could check anyway when I find it. No doubt they would be on the net. I think they originated in NSW?

The only Premier I know of is Premier Stateliner which is in South Australia.

We used to have lots of coach lines, such as Deluxe (probably my favourite), Greyhound, Ansett, McCafferty's, and a few others. Now we mainly have Greyhound and one Premier service each way per day (used to be four each way about 5 years ago)

Deluxe fell on their own sword because their Sydney services was terrible. McCafferty's merged with Greyhound after the two major crashes on the Pacific Highway in the late 1980's. I think Ansett are still around but they strictly stick to tours nowadays. Call themselves AAT Kings.

And I think it's two a day for Greyhound if I remember the timetable when I looked at as indicated above.

Exactly!

You're right - the policies of both sides are aimed at the children. Of course we don't dare say that's not important (it is) - but that's been happening for a long time. The kids get noticed and us adults get ignored. Indeed - DXed at 32 I fall into the category you are talking about.
Yep, and first day out -the desperate Howard and Costello throw out a $34 billion BRIBE!!

How much are ASD's costing in Australia at the moment again? *tears his hair out*
