Did anyone see "The Big Bang Theory" last night on CBS (American TV)?

Yeah, yeah, some stereotypes and cliches... but the leading character and his buddies are very Aspie and some of the writing and characterizations are pretty funny. There's an element of laughing at the characters (it's a sit-com) but they are also clearly the heroes and they are really endearing people -- the main character (Johnny Galecki) is a brilliant, sweet and thoroughly aspielicious guy. Some may remember him as the younger daughter's boyfriend on "Roseanne."
Definitely Aspie-licious from that trailer. We won't get it here though.

But more likely you will see an "*** burger" joke instead.

Your criticism will be alid when that happens. Otherwise, it's odd to criticize a show for something that didn't happen.

Anyone watch Bones or House? There is a similar humor there where intelligence clashes with society, yet no lame fake laughing.

Those are not sitcoms. That's like criticizing a football game for its failure to be a baseball game.

House is a drama about a angry middle aged man imo.

He doesn't intend to be amusing, shame on you for finding him amusing ;p

shame on me for doing so.
Well, you'd better let me & hubby join the 'shame list' too - we watched the first episode of the new series of 'House' tonight and found it hilarious.

It had all the elements of a good sitcom.

The fixed situation (a hospital)
grumpy old protagonist
tit-for-tat 'kidnappings'
mistaken identity
janitor pretending to be doctor....

Yeah well in Scrubs (a proper medical comedy, love it btw Dr Cox reminds me so much of me it hurts Tongue) the Janitor pretends to be the Chief of Medicine (in this case a President Shinra like man) because he needed a new RPG because they banned him from his RPG club because he brought in a real Warhammer :p

Jerry just sounds like a bit of a tit Tongue

I remember someone talking to me about it, I brushed it off as shameless stereotyping.
Ghetto Edit: If anybodys got AS in that show it's William Shatner Tongue

"This is.....thevoyages of the...starshipenterprise" :p

I love this programme! It is shown on Thursday nights at around 10pm on channel 4 in the UK.

The are also going to show the next series of House on Channel 5 soon which I also really like.

btw, Lesley, played by Sara Gilbert (the main charachter's lab partner) was Darlene in Roseanne (the younger daughter) that you mention, Max.

"Tonight I spice my mead with GOBLIN BLOOD!"

I still think it's a boring show though.
I enjoy the show. It's humorous. I just got annoyed last night on the show with the references to things like "YouTube" and "Facebook". This happens on other television programs I'm sure, making cultural references like this. I don't know why it irks me, it just doesn't seem natural to the dialogue that's being spoken. It's like the writers are trying to hard to make the characters "hip".

But the show is enjoyable. I haven't enjoyed a sitcom since the show "Frasier" went off the air some years back.
In ten years, you know they're gonna sound outdated...

Oh I don't know about that, Tigger. We might. It depends if it's successful. Also, we might see it down here during the off ratings period - or maybe on Pay TV. I'll remember the name and give it a look if it does show up.

I like Frasier, too.

I should really check this show out, seeing as I love science, well-written shows, and socially awkward characters, and I finally figured out how to download things from iTunes.
-So what's your point?
-No point. I just think it'd make a good T-shirt.

Smile

I finally got around to downloading the episodes and have watched the first 7. Sheldon reminds me a lot of how I was when I was 13 (a point where I just couldn't keep my mouth shut for the most part). I especially like the parts where he's looking for a place to sit when his seat is occupied.
