People need to able to express themselves freely and without constraint - this advances and develops thinking.

By limiting freedom of expression - you are limiting and repressing freedom of thought.

I think that is the intent of the oppressors, or at least the fondest wish -- but it's not achievable.

I believe it is achievable - the internet does help - but not all nations have the internet.

From what I hear (don't know if it is true) the media in the states are limited in their ability to accurately report on the war in Iraq - this limits freedom of expression and consequently freedom of thought. People believe what they read - they are limited in their understanding - due to freedom of expression.

darn --- incorrectly stated --- Max posted the line under the quote.

My words start with  ... "I believe it is achievable ..
and I should have finished by stating - due to limitations put on freedom of expression.

I really need an edit function Gareth. sad face.

Yes. This is why the 'oppressor class" hates the internet and wants to crush it through corporatist control.

I'm curious -how do you define 'oppressor class' Max?

Well stated Max.

Attitudes related to power and privilege are so institutionalised within society - people who are able to take advantage are often blind to the benefits.

I like to think things are improving - somewhat.

Condoleeza comes across to me as being a puppet.

Yetti, pull your horns in. You are ranting again. You'll get spittle all over your keyboard.

And you are not discussing the topic as usual . Smile

It's hard to discuss anything with someone who rants. Smile

I get the feeling some people are on this board all the time because they are not in therapy and/or they on are the societies payroll and not working.

I am against Public welfare and it would behoove an aspie and society to get $$ for Behavioral therapy and not sitting on the internet all day.

Its more than a little presumptuous to assume that people on this board require therapy or else they should be in employment. Many people don‘t work for medical reasons, others may be retired or be too young to work. A single parent bringing up a child is at least as valuable as someone in paid employment. Some people here may be in receipt of welfare--but that doesn’t mean they’re worth any less than someone who’s working.

Yetti Wrote:
Attacking people in discussions will not serve to help an aspie learn need skills to work with others in a social group.

On the contrary--attacking someone who belittles others and behaves in a high-handedly manner toward those who don’t agree with her world view--helps an aspie develop very good social skills and brings an understand of the dynamics of conflict.

Yetti Wrote:
To many are not even diagnosed here, meaning they probably have other disorders which are not being addressed.

Just because someone isn’t officially diagnosed doesn’t mean “they probably have other disorders”. Nor does it mean they’re not an aspie. It just means they don’t have an official diagnosis--that’s all.

The issues discussed here can be found in more controlled places. .esp if there are people on the board using controlled substances illegally and venting on the internet.

Where did that come from? Are we all drug users now?

I worked for a number of years in the area of social services and to be frank what I found was a mix. Some families receiving welfare were more than deserving, the victims of unfortunate circumstances or just trying to survive on what was simply a poor wage and limited earned income.  Others, most especially those who were third and fourth generation welfare, had all but made a science of using and beating the system, even going so far as to calculate when they needed to become reimpregranted so as not to be dropped from the system.

Fair point...its not black and white issue. Some people do exploit the system--others are derserving of help.

Is this a serious disagreement or are both having a bit of fun?

If it so serious perhaps you should consider insulting each other via PM.

What do Dostum and Palpatine have to do with Christianity?

quickduck Wrote:
Well Dostum was a follower of Islam and Palpatine was Darth Sidious, evil lord of the Sith--so I suppose to a christian they both represent 'the dark side of the force'

Yetti Wrote:
That is incorrect.. Dostum is a communist and Atheist.. he was born muslim but is not...He was an officer with the Soviets and turned on them during the war... He is a staunch atheist and promotes womens rights in his territory.... I read all about him.

Apologises…I’ve done some research--you are correct it this matter. I was having a bit of fun--but should have made an effort to be better informed.
