no if they are trained properly they should be understanding

hm.a tough one.

i recently had a spat of bother with the police, being arrested in my own home during a (non violent) meltdown for "disturbance of the peace",and then having to walk back home 31 miles in bare feet along the A21 (for those who dont know, its an incredibly dangerous, accident ridden blackspot of an arterial  road)

needless to say,i am still pissed off about being dragged from my own home,my weak (RSI) wrist being sprained, and hogtied, thrown into a van,no glasses(i am...quite blind..without them) and urgh.assessed by a psychiatrist who was expecting me to be lying about it to get off.

long story short,i have been on the receiving end of their lack of training.

yes,they need more *** education!
Well, they've been trained to work with black people. Are you sure you want the same treatment?

They should most DEFINITELY be trained to handle ANY person with mental problems or disabilities; its what should be required for their jobs.

im so sorry i didn't realise

Yes.  The police should be trained to recognize it in someone they're dealing with.  Perhaps also, there should be a card to put in your wallet next to your license or ID (discrete, but there to serve as proof if needed).  Mainly, so they don't just assume you're on drugs and treat you like a junkie.  Also, it would probably be a good idea if it means you won't get put in general population if arrested.  Not that I like the idea of asking for special treatment, but I just don't want to read in the news about some aspie getting roughed up in the drunk tank because he didn't have the "people skills" to deal with the other inmates.

Don't worry 'bout it,I'm more angry than upset.
but yeah.they should be trained to look for the signs,if that person is behaving a little.odd.and they should be trained to look for the card, and from that point, keep touching to a minimum, and treat us "specifically" ie: those cells, the slide on them, make a horrible, metallic, echoie (echoy?echohy?) noise-the lighting in there is harsh, and they never turn it off, even if you ask.the blankets have a horrible texture that was absolute hell.oh,and they took my trousers for some reason....

hm.

wel,we wouldnt fit the same "profile"-if anything,we fit a profile of being either extremely slow and stupid,or very very intellegent. and it would be made clear,i would hope, that we are slow to anger, unless you break a cardinal rule ie:no touching without permission,no touching of the ears (for one of my friends, you do that and oh my god,its a whirlwind of fists!)

I think all professionals who may deal with Aspies should be properly trained in how to handle us. It would save tragic situations such as that poor 14 year old boy being shot.

I agree. They really need more training. Oh, and I know the A21 very well indeed. I used to be a taxi driver based near that horrible road. I'm surprised you weren't killed. If I were still driving up and down that road I would have offered you a free ride - I always gave walkers on dangerous roads free rides because I knew my conscience would have been on at me for the rest of my life if someone were knocked down. Unfortunately I'm now on the other side of the planet.

i was walking down...uh,if you know the A21,I'm not sure if it would have been there, but there is a school named "Claremont"?
well,i had to walk from hastings back home along that bit,and there where a couple of times that i slipped down the bank, very nearly into arctic lorries.

stupid pigs.
