Not sure if this has been posted before but I saw this and really liked it, the reporter seemed to get the general idea of why an autism rights movement was needed, and mentioned the genetic/abortion/genocide issue which is the first time I have seen that brought up on TV in regard to autism.

They also showed a shot referring to Autistic Pride Day. A lot more positive media interest like this would be very welcome.

And I saw Amanda's cute doggy in the background too. Smile
Thank you for the link, Amy. Smile
The woman in the white shirt talking about how people with autism should not just be seen as different personality trait or extreme shyness -- I agree that she is correct.  Many people with autism do need support.  They are not getting it.  This is evident on this forum and other forums that I have visited.  It is the question of what type of support people need.

My biggest question is that why isn't charities for autism or ones that promote autistic awareness NOT helping people with autism.  They are just mostly funding research into genetic markers for autism which will lead to genocide or therapies to make autistics act normal.  (the guilty are CAN and others).

The opinions I see at the AFF forum and Autism Hub seem to be abit different than what that is presented here. Hmm... Maybe people at Second Life and IRC have something to explain.

We don't deny that people need help, do we?
I mean, we are against a cure yes, but not treatments that help people's lives.

I think infact that the neurodiversity movement actually presents a great way to find what that really could be useful in autistic people's lives. Not intense focus on getting rid of "weaknesses" aswell as "abnormalities".

Well said M, the woman in the white shirt seems confused on the issue, which is a shame as she is supposed to be part of the main UK autism org.
I think most of us would love the money that is being spent on cure research to go to practical help for people on the spectrum.
It makes me sick when I hear how much they make and spend to fund scientists when we know of people who are homeless or living in very bad conditions.
Score one for us all!
Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist about anything we supposedly said to these people, please read this post which is about what we actually did and did not say to them.
Thanks Amanda!
"Whoever edited the interview, edited it into something incredibly simplistic that I do not remember us saying."  this happens often.  I was well aware of this possibility when I made my comments.
