Politics are one of my worst subjects, it's too complicated a system for me to really get a good grip on... as a result I'm quite apathetic.  Basically anything I have trouble learning/lack interest in, is something I know very little about.

Seconded!  I thought I was the only one who struggles with this subject.

What's this got to do with being NT?

I assumed "NT'isms" referred to sayings/phrases/habits that NTs often have that aspies often don't.

In that context, I would say the phrase, "Get a life." Apart from being over-used, it's laughably stupid. Who are people to judge me for what I like to spend my time doing, as long as I'm not hurting anyone? The attitude that some lives are inferior to others, presumably because of less social contact, or less small talk, or less something else that's non-essential, is both stupid, wrong and rude.

Thanks, as I was beginning to think I was one of the only ones who doesn't "get" politics on AFF (and lacks interest)...

From what I'm reading in this thread nobody referred to the future of people on the spectrum anymore than they did the politics on AFF.

No, but what I'm saying is that people who are not part of the "mainstream" can't afford to be oblivious to politics because if we remain uninvolved, we will remain passive victims. The process of social change is a political process.

I resist admitting that this is mostly true. Political passivity is a huge mistake. But I think it's also largely true of every "outsider" population. Not everybody has to be a "leader", though. Gareth is certainly very politically astute, and I believe there are many Aspies who may not be able to become election-winning politicians at center stage (which does require NT skills, as Al Gore would have to attest) but who are the policy makers who are the brains behind the scenes. Erich and I met through our political work, and he's actually much more political than I am.

But if something is going to happen in the area of civil rights from a public stand point, it will likely have to be NT people who are good at the game and are willing to fight politically or Aspies who are willing to tax themselves to learn and play.

Exactly. It would have to be both. And it can be both.

"Politics" is another word for people competing over limited resources.

Gross oversimplification. You're much more nearly defining economics than politics.

You were talking about politics on AFF?  I guess that shows how out of the loop I am... I didn't know there were any. I thought we were just a bunch of individuals... are there really 'sides' here??  I see people fighting, but I don't really see any taking of sides.

The only thing that makes me interested in AFF politics is the fact that I've completely missed something that is obvious to so many others; even those who say they are apathetic to it!!!

Maybe it's because I can't get in the chatroom and everyone talks about it in there?

Not AFF politics... politics in general, on AFF.  A lot of members here know a great deal about world affairs/politics, and I was saying because I don't, I kinda feel left out and stupid.

That's my impression too... and personally, it genuinely is a lack of interest on my part.  I'm guilty of political apathy, among many other forms of apathy.

I think you hate yourself too much. You probably like it.

I got too carried away with the issue of educational compatibility in a hypothetical relationship.  Sorry.

But two people have to like at least a few of the same things to enjoy each others' company.

I am kind of caught between "God made everyone everyone is valuable" and "I'm afraid she wouldn't like me if I had educated interests."

Ah yes, now I see. Pardon me for being a bit slow here. Elitism is annoying when it is taken too far, whether it is of Aspies or anybody else. Somebody else who will remain nameless here equates personal worth with level of education and "achievement" and I think that got old very quickly too.

GuessWho, your self-righteous, "elitist" tendency is visible from space.. to translate the soothing suggestions made by other users on this site.
Ian, do you watch the Military Channel and go behind the lines?

Sometimes they have three station identification shots in a row.  Often, two.

Instead of repeating the same words with different scenes of aircraft or tanks or ships, they should say:

You're watching.... the military channel.   Go behind the lines.
You're still watching.... the military channel.  Have you gone behind the lines yet?
This is the military channel, move it private!

Often, the same technology that can kill can save as well.

Hurricane Katrina redeux:

1.  UAV to figure out where the survivors are, their situation.
2.  If you refuel all your rescue helos in flight, they can spend more time rescuing people, right?
3.  Instead of leaving all the injured and ill on the airport floor, hospital ship, dude
4.  We can stockpile weapons and supplies in places like Diego Garcia or Bahrain.  Why not stockpile stuff for the next hurricane?
      a. food
      b. water
      c. port a potties
      d. alcohol-based hand cleaner
      e. diapers
      f. infant formula
      g. blankets
      h. medicines
      i. misc

Triage the survivors: those who need dialysis, medicine, insulin, medevac them out, to say, hospital ship.
Old aircraft carrier (or other big ship) can also house survivors and support personal.

It is on digital (enhanced, premium) cable where I am (Comcast), channel 112.
Max, what are my interests, and why aren't they educated?  (I forgot.  :-)  )
