does anyone know why the DSM dropped the residual autism lable? I mean it fits so many people why would they rid of it?
I guess that it's because they thought that Asperger's Syndrome was good enough to define such people. At least, that's probably what the rationale was in getting rid of it. Kind of a shame...

I hate that cause what about people like me and you? my "residual traits" ARE NOT asperger's at all. My developmental pattern is not consistant with asperger's AT ALL. Some people with autism do become more and more NT like as they get older, not more asperger's like, and thats the reality. I mean thats what's happened to me anyways, I started off HFA then as Im getting older im becomming more NT like. My symptomology has never been asperger's.

People are stupid.....

Yeah. Unfortunately the whole of the populace takes longer than individuals to learn and accept the truth.

You told me you're not HFA or AS or anything, but SPD instead...

I am no expert but I think I heard somewhere that it can go both ways.

developmentally im HFA, but now the only taits of autism I have left are SPD.

What's SPD?

Didn't you say before you are an NT?
I think the only problem with 'residual' is that some people who are not very knowledgeable about these things will say "Oh, residual autism / asperger's  - so you're perfectly normal really then."

I guess something like PDD-NOS would be used now for 'residual' traits if HFA or AS didn't fit. I also know someone who was initially diagnosed as residual AS who was recently re-diagnosed with Non-verbal learning disorder.

True, PDD-NOS can be used in place of that. But the thing is that most experts hate using it, so they'll just put the AS label on such kids even when it clearly doesn't fit very well.
Why do they hate using it?
They hate using it because it's pretty nondescript.

I meant SPD as in sensory processing disorder

I even have a new theory that my epilepsy caused brain damage which results in inability to control impulses and emotional regulation, and language problems....but God dammit I need a doctor, well i do, but f***ing mom gets in the way!
