Those fools still think about us as sub-human, won't they ever see us as the next step of human evolution?  They really need to feel the difference of our abilities...
Okay, I'm watching Oprah. The "celebrity" is anorexic exhibitionist Jenny McCarthy, Playboy's Miss October 1993 -- and she's talking about how her son Evan got his vaccination and "his soul was gone from his eyes." She says "it gave Evan autism." She's trying hard not to look like an aging stripper and not to sound like an idiot. marginal success on both points.

Much soap-opera about "who will love me with an autistic son?" Apparently she dated Jim Carrey for months before she told him she had an autistic son. "I just wanted some one to hold me and love my pretty blue blouse." (Yes, she talks like that. Rolleyes )

Jenny has apparently "written" a book. In the forward of the book, it says, "Jenny McCarthy takes us on journey of a mom dealing with her son’s Autism diagnosis and treatment. We learn what it is like to be a parent and have your dreams shattered."

Now some "celebrity" I never heard of -- Holly Robinson Peate -- is saying "My son is NOT autistic; he HAS autism." She keeps saying "Oh, I'm crying! I wasn't going to cry!" and she's not crying at all. Rolleyes

Thanks for another wasted hour, Oprah...

Ebert? EBERT??

My CAT is better than Ebert!

Ebert politicked and lobbied "Crash" for the Best Picture Oscar over "Brokeback Mountain.'

Ebert is dead to me.

DEAD TO ME!!

*insert snarling emoticon with teeth dripping blood*

Jesus, more selfish parents who should be sticking their heads in blenders.

Pathetic.
Sure, Alison.

So you saw Jenny's new hair style?

No, I didn't see the programme- i'm in the wrong country for a startSmile

But thanks to a detailed previous post, I was able to gather that these Mothers are pathetic people who should stick their heads in blenders. They sound like graduates of the Autism Speaks Drama School.

Autism is Reversible. At Least, Jenny McCarthy Says So

Quote:
Autism is Reversible. At Least, Jenny McCarthy Says So

A Hopeful Phrase, But No Research to Back up Claims about Nutrition

Jenny McCarthy is spreading the word about her hopes that a gluten free diet can reverse autism, or at least alleviate some of its symptoms. While any progress on this frustrating condition are welcome, it’s wise to remember that McCarthy and others who believe in this diet don’t have any good science backing up her claims.

As countless parents now have learned, as soon as you set out to learn about autism, you run into frustrating unknowns.

Why are more and more children being diagnosed with it – now about 1 in every 150 children born? Why are its symptoms more severe in some children than in others? Why are so many more boys diagnosed than girls — four boys for every one girl? What – if any – environmental toxins trigger the disease in the brains of developing fetuses?

Above all: how can it be prevented?

Scientists are hard at work on the answers to these questions, but the questions remain as a central part of the disease, and — coupled with the increase in diagnoses in the past two decades — they are what make the disease so widely discussed, and so controversial.

Autism is characterized by its symptoms, and because the severity of those symptoms vary, the disease is thought of as a “spectrum disorder” — one that affects one child more severely than others.

Symptoms emerge very early in life and last throughout. Children are unable to interact with people as others do: for instance, they may shun hugs, fail to understand facial cues that are an intuitive form of communication to others, maintain unusual focus on seemingly inconsequential things, and develop repetitive physical tics like rocking back and forth.

Because chemicals have been shown to interrupt or disrupt the normal development of the brain during fetal development in the womb and during early childhood development, environmental toxins have long been suspects in the search for a cause. In a variety of diseases, chemicals and other environmental cues are thought of as triggers that prompt genes to act, and a genetic pre-disposition to autism is also thought to be part of the equation.

But the final chapters have yet to be written about autism. Research constantly sheds new light and, as good science does, raises new questions about a beguiling disease.

Surely, good nutrition is an important part of raising a child, whether or not that child has autism. For encouraging a thoughtful consideration of childhood diet, if nothing else, we can thank McCarthy.

I have two autistic sons and as you point out all children benefit from a good diet. I hope that’s a message that Ms.McCarthy’s book promotes.
       Best wishes[/quote]
I'm not a celebrity, just an Aspergian, but the Today show is running a story on me next Saturday.  I think that's going to hit a bit closer to OUR reality than Jenny McCarthy on Oprah did.  My book goes on sale this week and they held off running the segment till it was out.
