I'm a true MySpace addict, it has given me a window to contacting fellow aspies and sympathetic NT's, who have become my rock over the last few months, BUT MySpace is fast becoming jam packed full of Anti-Autistic profiles and pro cure ones, some of which contain phrases like "join the fight against Autism" or "Athletes Against Autism". People are using massive social networks to spread a very degrading, depressing message about Autism. Some of these profiles seem to be by parents who I imagine have been sucked into the whole thing through bad infomation in the media, ignorant doctors and sites like Autism Speaks.
It makes me so sad to read, because I went to an amazing Autism Specific school, where it was not about curing us, but plugging our traits and focusing them on the positive aspect of our Autism, and they worked with the Media on portraying a positive image of Autism.

i have heard of this group (thanks wikipedia!) and whats more alarming is that some of the members are autistic themselves! but they could have been forced into it by their families or something

How can you be anti-autistic? When I first found out a young relative was on the spectrum I immediately thought his world was over. I never realised how close his world was to my own until I researched heavily into it.
