Maybe that is why I am in programming?
If, indeed, we have fractal brains, and I believe we do -- all of us, ND and NT alike.  If, indeed, Dr. Lipton's research indicating that personal perception of environment has much to do with whether and when genes actualize is correct, and I believe that it is.  Then no one is hopelessly or helplessly trapped in liberalism or conservatism.

Quote:
... and that is a perfect description of how a hard-core conservative sees the world.

It is also a much more accurate view of the world. Which makes me wonder: Is it a conservative tendency to choose truth over happiness? Liberals are idealistic but often their ideals are unrealistic in scope.

Idealism seems very much to be a conerstone of (american)liberalism. I mean, their goal is a better world. Im not saying thats not admirable, but there are certain negative aspects of humanity(war and violence) which people have worked very hard to eliminate but they never seem to go away. As for peoples inherent selfish nature I do not think that that's a good thing(!)In fact, thats why I tend to think that people are basically bad.So yeah Im liberal, but I wouldnt say that Im idealistic. So I suppose such things actually can be mutually exclusive.
Thanks for the bump, Max; I still think that this thread only applies to political thought in America!

To me, it seems that  the USA has a strange two-party system; that  American citizens are encouraged from an early age to think of themselves as members of one of two teams, and to hate all members of the opposite one.

The original research has ignored the 95% of the population of this planet that does not live under US rule and yet tried to find universal truths about brain-function from the voting preferences of Americans.

That in itself tells me a lot about the American education system!

I think that this globe tells us all we need to know about how the USA views the rest of the world:

Your globe is incorrect. The USA doesn't see those oceans, either.

Don't they even acknowledge the few feet of wet stuff between California and Hawaii where the surfer-dudes play?

Surfer-dudes aren't Americans. As they'll be the first to tell you, they're in a world of there own.Smile

What I find particularly intriguing about that globe is that both Alaska and Florida are almost off the edge of the world...

I bet huge numbers of Americans think that Alaska is an island! Tongue
Thanks for posting, guys. This was a good read. I was at work today so I actually had time to read the whole thread.  Big Grin
