Families Of Children With Autism Speak Out
Bob Perreault
Monday, February 28, 2005
Families of children with autism are calling on federal and provincial politicians to cover their treatments under the health care system.
Right now, autism is "not" considered a health care issue. Treatment can cost anywhere from 40 to 50-thousand dollars, far beyond what an average family can afford.
Even so, local resident Laurel Gibbons says her son was on a waiting list so long, he was too old by the time it was his turn.
She adds, since governments consider it a social and not a health issue, they can deny coverage, and also deny they're sending families to a two-tier system
